Scene Sound v1.8.1208 has been released. You can download the full version free of charge at http://scenesound.cyclobster.com

This version adds:

* Hotkey Summary. This new floating window lists all hotkeyed sounds for easy reference
* Non-blocking Volume Slide. Scripting a volume slide no longer pauses the script until the volume reaches its final value; the next command is run immediately. Multiple sounds can now slide simultaneously. One benefit is that you can now script a cross-fade to fade one sound out while fading a new sound in. If you have any scripts that depended on waiting for a slide to finish, add a wait command directly after the slide volume command with a value equal to the time required to complete the slide.
* Pan Fix. Panning left-to-right is now correct
* Keyboard Shortcuts. Shift+L to focus Library panel, Shift+C to focus Scripts
* Keyboard Functionality. More keyboard control for playing scenes and sounds from the Library
* Streaming Radio. Improvements to streaming content playback
* Improved Sound Details. The tips that displays when hovering over the sound title now also displays playback, extended options, and linking information

Please post your thoughts, bugs, and feature suggestions. I'm always open to improving the software by implementing requests. The next version will include a new scripting editor which should really speed up the amount of time it take to create a script.

(For folks watching at home, this is NOT average spam. There's a real guy behind the post. He's actually trying to produce stuff you might like to use.)

And it´s not an advertising message? I´m sorry, but I´ve to ask. I think I´ve reported this guy earlier (and it was removed), if that´s wrong - once again - I´m sorry.

EDIT - yup, it was a mistake, and we goofed as well when we moderated. No massive harm done, but this is a longtime member with a cool free program. ~ PCat

What OS is this for? What are the requisites for the program?

It will run on 32 or 64 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. I believe that users have also had success running on a Mac using Bootcamp or Parallels.

The program itself has really low requirements (1 GHz Pentium with 256mb of memory) so it should run well on any desktop, laptop, or netbook. Naturally, the more effects you load in a scene will affect performance, but I use a low-powered Asus netbook when I DM and my scenes may contain 30+ sounds. I've never had a problem.

Thanks for reposting this!

Hey, can you give some examples of how it might best be used in a RPG session?

Sure. I run a Call of Cthulhu game for my group which is currently set in 1929. To really set the mood for that game, I play a streaming radio station specializing in music from the 20's and mix in sound effects like a vintage recording of New York city traffic, car horns, and sidewalk noises.

When they went to visit a local businessman of questionable loyalties, the outside noises were lowered in volume, but they could clearly hear the sounds of the stock ticker machine and his secretary typing away. I wrote a script to handle this transition, and it was only a click away when I wanted to switch locations.

When the meeting turned hostile, the sounds for their .38's, tommy guns, shotguns, and dynamite were only a key press away. In my setup, I have the number keys hotkeyed to their weapons and spell sound effects.

It take a light touch when setting up the effects for a scene; what sounds good for 3 minutes starts to get real annoying when looped for 30 minutes. But when done right, I think it really adds to the immersion of the game.

There are a few tutorials on getting started at Video Tutorials :: Scene Sound. These are basic guides but should give you an idea of what's possible.

If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll do my best to get you some answers.

Thanks for information. Should I get my Windows VM up and running (I'm on Ubuntu, not a Mac), I'll have to give this a shot.
