Looking for Cleric Convert Religion rules

That's it really- looking for some rules in any edition/game for Clerics (and other Holy) PCs to convert others to their religion of choice, I seem to remember somewhere in the past a set of these- White Dwarf? Dragon?

Any suggestions?

I recommend skill challenges tailored to the npc/ scene. In a previous edition I had started using a 'Dedication' stat that sorta replaced the paladin and cleric classes using skills-n-feats system. But never got enought play testing before the new system game out.

In a conversion scenario you would debate and try to reduce the persons current dedication to zero and then build it up with your diety as its focus.

It was a nice way to do the fallen or antipalidin.

I dunno if its something that needs rules for.

Just extended role playing or just a "Hey listen, I decided to switch my religion. All the flavor text for that will happen off screen" to the other players.

Primitivescrewhead- yeah I figured that (skill challenges) I just remembered there used to exist a version and I wanted to see if anyone knew where it was before I go trolling through my collectcion looking for it, although I quite like a dedication stat it's just I really want to lay my hands on any existing rules and specifically the ones I remember, and am fairly certain I've not made up.

Human Target- I need it because in a mini game section of my present campaign one of the characters has to convert a number of citizens in order to impress... etc.

As I say I know the rules exist for this- it was a one=two page summary, neat as you like, I just wanted to see if anybody else remembered seeing this, and remembered where it was.

Otherwise, thanks for the advice.

Yeah, I remember that. Unfortunately I had to sell off most of my gaming stuff a few years ago, so I can't look for it.

3.5 had rules for it in the Player's Handbook 2, I believe, in the last chapter on 'rebuilding characters.' I think 2E may have addressed it in the Complete Priest's Handbook.

EDIT: Sorry, I misunderstood the question.

Sorry I musta read the original post wrong.

I thought you meant solely for converting one divine PC character from one religion to another.

I'll check in the PH2 and the Complete Priest's Handbook, I've got both of them in boxes in the loft somewhere.

Sorry to both of you if I didn't explain the situation as well as I could have, my bad.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.

I had some 1e houserules based loosely on something originally from White Dwarf. It revolved around Wis and Int contests, and a range of successes could convert someone, but a succession of failures could lead to falling away and apostasy - proselytising was a rewarding but risky option in my worlds!

Let me know if you'd like me to dig them out for you.

Cheers
