How To Raise A Rust Monster Mount Guide

RUMBLETiGER

Adventurer
Greetings ENworlders, long time lurker, first time posting.

The objective of this guide is aquiring and raising a Rust Monster from infancy to become a pet, than eventually a Large-sized mount. I've compiled this information from a variety of offical sources, filled in the gaps with hopefully good sense and decent math. I'd love to compile a PDF, but first I need a lot of feedback from this community.

This is the equivolent of 10ish pages of a microsoft word document, and a 1 page excel spreadsheet.

Here's the link to my wizard's page blog: How To Raise A Rust Monster, First Draft

I'd appreciate any and all input, thanks for your time. Thanks for years of information and ideas as I've lurked in these forums!

I think that looks beautiful, and is very well done. I personally am not a fan of Rust Monsters, but you have set a very logical and justifiable precedent for unusual mounts.

Thank you! I confess I've had more fun with Rust Monsters as a DM than as a player. I'm glad to hear that what I've put together makes sense, and I'd be open to any feedback on refining details.

Rust monsters for the win!

No doubt my friend. I've developed an affection for these guys.

What say you to oxygen free environments and the Rust Monster?
yup, under Transporting your Rust Monster I recommend a bottle of air strung onto a crafted necklace, (and to extrapolate here, most likely out of leather or rope). I specifically address why the Necklace of Adaptation won't work, being made of metal. I'm going to assume that with a wisdom of 13 and some training beforehand, the Rust Monster would have the sense to press it's mouth against an oxygen source in the absence of breathable air.

for underwater swimming purposes, pulling off the Amphibious template as a magic-induced template (see Thinking outside the RAW) would be something to negotiate with a DM.

One thing I've thought of though. Why raise a monster to more then average HD and need your DM to approve it if you can just buy a Permanent Enlarge effect and bypass needing a DM to bend the rules at all?

Given that 3.5 has been a "closed system" for some time, it is hard to come up with new & innovative ideas, especially ones that are not unbalanced.

I only wish I could give more XP b/c this is a cool idea.

I want one!!
