How To Raise A Rust Monster Mount Guide

One thing I've thought of though. Why raise a monster to more then average HD and need your DM to approve it if you can just buy a Permanent Enlarge effect and bypass needing a DM to bend the rules at all?
That's a really good idea. When I get a block of time I'll write up that variant option to fulfill the Large size requirement for a medium creature to have the mount. The obvious advantage is saving time, the obvious disadvantage is lower HD & all that goes with that. I'll do a write up and leave the option to the reader.

The Warbeast template will still require the 2 months of training to apply, but there is no reason this training could not occur within the nearly 6 months it takes to raise from infancy to 5HD, MMI adulthood. I see no reason why a Permanent Enlarge wouldn't work.

Thanks!

Can someone clarify for me, would a monster be able to pull off multiple attacks with natural attacks when it's BAB meets and exceeds 6? If not, I need to alter my table.

Natural Attacks do not benefit from higher BAB, though you can make attacks with a manufactured weapon or unarmed strike and follow them with a natural attack routine.

Given that 3.5 has been a "closed system" for some time, it is hard to come up with new & innovative ideas, especially ones that are not unbalanced.
Thank you.

I only wish I could give more XP b/c this is a cool idea.
Well hey, if you've got friends on ENworld who you could point to this thread, I'd love more feedback (like a permanent Enlarge, I totally didn't think of that!) and they just so happen could toss a few more points my way too... =P.

I want one!!
Convince a DM to allow you to purchase a Rust Monster Wand (Hey, what's 160gp anyway, really?), be ready with this Handle Animal skills and away you go!!!

Alright, good to know, I'll edit the chart for it's attacks when I get the time. I don't think my Rust Monster, even Warbeast trained, will be using manufactured weapons or Unarmed Strikes anytime soon.
If only Awaken could apply to aberrations, I'd be turning this mount build into a playable character!

I don't know if this simply existed in an earlier edition, but I cannot find a generic Enlarge spell that affects anything other than humanoids. Can anyone clarify for me if such a thing exists?

Ring of Enlargement
"On command, this ring increases
the wearer’s size as described in
the spell enlarge person, except
that any intelligent creature can
be affected, not just humanoids."

Oh! Alright, very neat. Now I need to clearly define "Intelligent creature" and also figure if an INT 2 creature has the ability to use command triggers. Or find ways to circumvent the process.

If it is your mount, does it not receive an increased Int score? Going through all this trouble when you are a class that doesn't have any good synergy with a mount seems like a waste.

All of this process is non-magical, non-class ability modifications. This really is somebody going through A LOT of trouble for something to replace the standard Horse and pack of Dogs. And for the intimidation factor, coolness factor, and at-will disintegrate ability to all things metal.
There is no Int score increase built into any of this process. And honestly, it's likely a good thing in this case. An intelligent, metal-hungry creature might be a very scary idea.

EDIT: I have since added a PrC with class abilities, and Intelligence enhancing abilities. Woo Hoo!
