Infinite quiver

Actually if I'm not mistaken the book does mention that Legolas restocks his arrows from some Orc corpses, but it's to illustrate the fact the arrows aren't of Mordor make (because they were Saruman's guys).

He also runs out of arrows at Helm's Deep and has to resort to using his knives.

Yeah, tracking ammo is pretty lame. Tracking light and food after level 3 is also lame unless you want to make overland survival part of the game (and ideally not for the entire game).

It makes no sense that any magic thrown weapon replaces the need to have ammo for a character using them as it returns instantly, but other magic ranged weapons have to track ammo.

In our games we have allowed magic weapons to create the ammo, as the weapon is drawn.

I find tracking ammo for PCs about as exciting as having them track when they have to poop.

Hmmm I dont have any toilet paper written on my sheet. I guess im using leaves:.-(

Tracking ammo only makes sense if melee wielders have track wear and tear on their weapons and armour.

I usually give an infinite quiver for free to PCs using ammunition when they reach 6th level. By that time the cost of ammunition becomes trivial and at the same time bookkeping becomes more time consuming.

I see no reason to track it ever. It's trivial at level 2, and adds nothing to the game besides making a character useless if they run out.

But at leats two of my players like to do the bookkeeping (and one is my wife)! I mainly hand over the quiver because at higher levels this starts to slow down their turns.
