Monkey Grip / Appropiate weapon size

Greetings!

I've already seen countless questions about monkey grip.. .But here's the thing.

Monkey grip 3.5
Complete Warrior (3.5 version of the feat)

Allows you to wield a "larger" weapon as if it were appropriately sized but you still suffer the incorrect size penalty (i.e a -2 on attacks) and you can[t use it for your off hand.

In the PHB it says :
Inappropriately Sized Weapons
A creature can’t make optimum use of a weapon that isn’t properly sized for it. A cumulative -2 penalty applies on attack rolls for each size category of difference between the size of its intended wielder and the size of its actual wielder. If the creature isn’t proficient with the weapon a -4 nonproficiency penalty also applies.

The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder’s size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. If a weapon’s designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can’t wield the weapon at all.

Isn't this essentiale the same ?
So a medium creature, can in both ways, wield a Large greatsword for 2d8 damage, with a -2 penalty... So the feat is kinda useles.. Or am I misinterpreting this?

Here's an example.

Medium creature can wield a Large longsword as a two handed weapon, but not as a one handed weapon. With Monkey Grip, eh can now wield it as a one handed weapon.

Medium creature without Monkey Grip cannot wield a Large greatsword because it's just too large. Needs Monkey Grip to use it.

It say a bit more in the feat description...

What the feat grants you, is that it allows you to:

1-use "one size bigger one-handed weapons" as one-handed weapons instead of two handed.
2-use "one size bigger light weapons" as light weapons instead of one-handed weapons.
3-use "one size bigger two-handed weapons" as two-handed weapons instead of not being able to use them at all.

But if you look at the PHB section, doesnt it say you can equip a weapon of greater size with a -2 penalty for each size class its larger?

I also interpreted the Monkey grip as : You can wield a large 2h greatsword, as a normal 2h greatsword, not that you can also equip it in one hand

Yes.

It also says (i'll quote your post actually):

The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder’s size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. That's what the feat chances

I also interpreted the Monkey grip as : You can wield a large 2h greatsword, as a normal 2h greatsword, not that you can also equip it in one hand

Nope the feat simply allows you to use them, not treat them as one handed.

Again

...is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder’s size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. If a weapon’s designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can’t wield the weapon at all

One step after "two-handed" moves a weapon beyond the spectrum of light, one-handed, or two-handed, thus unusable without the feat.

Got it now ;)
Thought the weapon would still count as 'two-handed' Thanks!

Was browsing some stuff and encountered this.. Was like...wtf this can't be right! Thanks for clarifying!
