[sblock=Midias, Ngikhnit, Peladus]Gillin moves to the doors beside the ladder, seizes the rough handle and gives them a shake. They do not open.

"Locked," he says, then adds with a sniff, "...just about."[/sblock][sblock=Pendrake]Quozen gathers himself and drops down through the hole in the roof. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Pendrake lets himself drop too a fraction later.

Instead of a numbing collision with the floor two dozen feet below, he drops only a few feet before his fall is gently broken. He finds himself cradled in a net as though it were a hammock. Or wrapped up in it might be more precise. Entangled, even.

Crud.

Ten feet or more beneath him, the light from Quozen's sunrod reveals the interior of a building about as cluttered with junk as the yard is. The roof is - was? - held up by a central pole supporting beams. Next to the pole, clinging clammily to the underside of the roof, is the creature, a thick rubbery blob of darkness with two waving tentacles, whose edges blur uneadily. It is out of reach, for now.

OOG: Pendrake is caught up in a hanging fishing net... he is now both prone and entangled: that is, -4 Dex penalty (so Dex 10, no use of Dodge feat), AC 10 vs melee attacks, -6 penalty on melee attack rolls, no ranged attacks. Usual methods to escape: full round action DC 20 Escape Artist or DC 25 Str checks; or cut it up with a slashing weapon.

May want to see what happens to Quozen after his fall resolves.
[/sblock][sblock=Quozen]Quozen gathers himself and drops nimbly through the gap into a space about as cluttered with junk as the yard was. The ground rushes up to meet him.

OOG: an easy DC 15 Tumble check or DC 15 Jump check to avoid 1d6=5 nonlethal damage (if the Jump check exceeds 20, Quozen also lands on his feet). Vital rolls, though, since Quozen currently has 1 HP remaining, so please make them yourself![/sblock]

Swinging gracefully and gently is Pendrake ever so elegantly twisted and tangled in a fishing net. "Great. caught in someone's hammock"

[sblock=Ngikhnit]From his perch on the ladder, Ngikhnit sees Quozen drop lithely from sight, and a moment later Pendrake too give up his precarious grip and drop through the hole he made.

OOG: I'm out of practice and forgetting things![/sblock]

[sblock=Midias, Ngikhnit, Peladus]"Ah, lucky I came prepared!"

He produces a set of lockpicks from somewhere and sets to work.

OOC: Open Lock +3

IC: He laughs ruefully as the pick gets jammed in the lock. After a struggle he gets it out, then turns and holds out the picks to the old man.

"Then again, if you can open it, Gillin, it might be quicker."

Ngikhnit follows Pendrake and Quozen, hoping he can at least make it to the already-created hole, but realizing if the roof can't support Pendrake's weight it wouldn't stand a chance under his own feet.

How he proceeds down the hole (jump? shimmy?) will depend on what he sees when he gets to the hole's edge.
