I've already heard kvetching to the effect of using Smallville's "soap opera" system for a superhero game. Which is weird to me, since in my experience at their best comics are very similar to soap operas. A game where Spiderman is rolling his "with great power comes great responsiblity" + "gotta hide my secret from Aunt May" vs. Wolverine's "I'm the best asy what I do" + "Gotta keep my mind offa Jean Grey", just inherently sounds awesome.

Though instead of 'values + relationships', something like 'values + melodramatic hook' might be appropriate.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they adapt this system to the Marvel world. I think they've been clear that the + of Cortex+ is not just adjusting attributes for the same game just a new image on the cover. It likely wont be quite as heavy in the relationships side as Smallville, but probably wont be quite as role constrained as Leverage.

I'm hoping they really do some neat stuff with the powers, have the unique spin that Smallville's relationships had on making that game something different than any other DC game, and make it easy to run games within the Marvel universe and any sort of homebrew superhero setting you want to run that's similar enough.

Super eager for details on this one, and I haven't even had a chance to play my copy of Leverage.

Actually... I don't think its really big of a news story since No Comic Book sites are talking about it yet (including Marvel.com!). Then again it took a while for there to be any discussion about DCA on some comic book websites.

Well, different strokes and all. A lot of folks want a superhero system to primarily deliver exciting battles. The melodrama of romantic relationships doesn't translate so well to RPG's IMO. I'd rather see the spirit of superhero combat really captured once and for all. Avengers Earth's Mighties Heroes, for instance, is a very entertaining cartoon and its focus is on summer-blockbuster-style action. Good show to take cues from.

What Felon said. I hope it is more like Leverage than Smallville...

and the last enjoyable parts in Marvel comics are the oversized relations parts (mostly in the various X-Men books).
I hated the time half of the book Spidey was visiting his aunt and her senior friends...

BTW: Dragon Brigade, the Cortex + fantasy game will come out before it.
