Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

"Hello Ryan... and Randal. You two look like you have an interesting story to tell. I'm in-between hunts at the moment and could stand to hear such a story." She has a seat at the table and motions for a fresh drink from the bartender, idly burning doodles into the surface of the table with her finger.

Barely containing his excitement, Randal awkwardly humps closer to Ryan " what did I tell you buddy! The women here are hot... like literally! ". Turning his attention to Phoenix he comically winks several times with his mouldy eyebrows " Well, hello beautiful ! Don't mind the big guy. I believe we have something special going on... "

Amused, Ryan still interrupts Randal's obvious attempt to flirt with girl and answers her question " We are travellers from the Valley of Bones. We are here trying to locate some of Randal's family members and earn some honest gold...since Randal lost them all in a poker game the other day " he says mildly irritated.

" Don't judge me Ryan ! Maybe if I still had arms and legs I wouldn't have lost all that gold... and who's fault is that ! " snappes Randal

Ignoring his friends remark Ryan continues " I am completely at loss how you managed to play at all...and how you got to my gold... ". Turning his attention to Phoenix he raises his mug " Now, cheers to you stranger, for you are the only friendly face we have seen in this town but, before we continue our story, would you do us the same kindness and tell us who you are "

Thanks Iron Sky ! I am looking forward to see what my BV Fighter is capable of. I have been wondering alot about the lack of to hit bonus contra more damage. Sounds impressive what Sir Exsixten managed to do, hopefully Ryan can do the same!

Phoenix glances down at the head sitting on the table and smiles faintly. "Sorry Randal, I prefer my men to be a bit taller."

She turns to Ryan and extends a hand. "I go by Phoenix. If you haven't figured out why by now, good luck in this line of work. I've never been to the Valley of Bones, does everyone get issued one of these-" a gesture at Randal -"or do you have to do something special to end up with one?"

OOC: There are several downsides to BV. As you mentioned, you will miss alot. Especially until level 5 when you get the free expertise. When you make a wishlist, make sure a magic weapon of some sort is at the top and if you don't have one at the end of your first adventure, be sure to buy one. Your Ref and Will are going to be pretty low too, so Improved Defenses is a priority. You will be probably one of the toughest defenders out there though.

Earth extends his arms. From the soil bneath the planks of the tavern, erupts a rock hammer and a rock Shield. Grabbing both, the stone defender bellows. "Corrupted spawns of Shadow! Nature will purify you with obliteration!"

Giving Randal a quick stern look he responds " maybe you should have thought of the consequences of surprising a sleeping warrior in a undead infested mountain. You looked more interested in eating me than giving me a hug "

Strangely enough Randal finds himself agreeing " true... I was a bit hungry that day "

The fighter accepts Phoenix's hand and shakes it. " Well I might have taking a few hits on my helmet, but I am sure I still got some knots and bolts left" he says with a grin.
Gesturing at Randal he answers " Where we are from, its uncommon for a warrior of the Damned to choose a zombie as an companion, we usually do quite the opposite. We usually make it our business to slay them to protect the Bastion ... but this is not the case between me and Randal. I am not sure if I can explain Randal's condition, I just found him like this after his death... but after spending more than 10 years fighting undead scourges... and being turned into one... I think it's fair he gets to say good bye to his family before transcending "

Panicked, the zombie head looks at Ryan " what do you mean by 'before transcending' ?! " but Ryan clearly ignores him.

Looking at the doodles, made by Phoenix, Ryan curiously asks " so, whats your story? " while glancing at the burned table.

As everyone moves to come to Rocco's aide, they notice thick black smoke begin to bellow from the statues. To their amazement, other patrons not interested in this situation, seem totally unaware of the situation. As they look back at the statues they notice now that the smoke now covers then entire room, to the point where they cannot see your hands in front of them. Everyone begin to gasp and choke. At the point of unconsciousness, the smoke clears and they are now in a room of similar size to that of the tavern. There are no exits and the walls are black with ever moving shadows. The light is dim. There is nothing in the room accept themselves and the others willing to help. Further inspection of the room show as statues are accounted for...except for one...the hafling...which is no where to be seen. The room now is dead silent.

ooc: Rocco, other members of the trogdor party, and other patrons who are willing to help, please place your icons on the map provided. here

Everyone on the map has a free movement action. Feel free to speak freely in the thread: The Mark of Trogdor (we'll continue with that one). Rocco may have some explaining to do I'll wait a day or so for any other from the tavern to participate. Then the test begins.

More specifics about the room and anything you can notice will be updated in the Trogdor thread tomorrow.

"Hold that thought," she says. "Something... interesting going on here."
