D&D 5E I hope this isn't 5E...(art that screams "not this, not this!")

Diterlizzi & Brom (his Dark Sun work) are my favourites for art. Also, some of the art in the warhammer armybooks rocks. Not that sketchy stuff done by...forgot his name, but the other ones. ALso the warhammer novel covers, like this: http://www.jonsullivanart.com/2010 WEBSITE ART/damnos no save/1 copy.jpg

finally, i like todd lockwood's work on the D&D novel covers :)

btw: that dragon in the first post, it's from the D&D movie :)

This again?

This is "Anime D&D":

Wayne Reynolds' art may be "cartoony" or "comic booky" (in the sense that it is exaggerated and stylized), but it is not "anime".

All I really want to say about the "anime" thing...which is really wrapped in with the WoW thing...

Elf ears.

I want something/somewhere between Tolkien's depiction and ElfQuest/Wendy Pini style.

Ears that extend a foot (or two!) off behind the head or stick out perpendicular to the skull just make. me. NUTS! I know "it's a style"..."it's a 'unique'/differentiating look"...but it's just AWFUL! Makes. me. nuts.

So, to the point of the thread of what we hope is NOT D&D art, that's my two coppers. Elf ears...Reign 'em in!

We now return to our regularly scheduled "anime v. cartoony v. stupid big sword v. explained/reasonable big sword" debate already in progress.

You probably have been making too much sense lately, because I can't XP you yet. ;)

I prefer elf ears to be like those in the LotR movies, with half elves having slightly pointed ears within human possibility. Ears sticking to the side, I leave for my goblinoids.

Yeah, that's something that puts me off even worse with most of the PF art, the elf ears... or, as my son's GF puts it, "those are not ears, it's for hanging your laundry."

LOTR elf ears, please. Maybe a leeeetle bit longer, but not my much.

Now, for a half-elf-half-goblin, I could excuse those ears. Maybe.

Please for the love of all that is holy (or unholy), no giant elf ears.

Keep the giant swords out, or at the very very least make them the proper size for the giant it was "stolen from". SO, the hilt would be much thicker to accomodate a giant hand, the hilt would be longer to handle two giant hands which are probably 3 times bigger than hers.. The blade would be about 33-50% bigger if it was truly a "large" greatsword/bastard sword.

Also, please make an effort to think of how people move in armor and in general. A hand axe near the crotch impedes running. Spiked armor, where even the spikes have spikes, is a pain to move in, would kill innocent pedestrians, and would spell an end to any sort of wilderness expedition.

Those sorts of things. Also, no dragonborn or robots/warforged.

Me too! (PS: Sorry for making too much sense. ;) )

I could see that. Your son's GF is obviously wise beyond her years. lol.

Imminently sensible...on all points. But I think you are just going to have to get used to Dragonborn being part of the "core" races...the 4-ers just won't give them up! Warforged belong in Eberron and that's where they should stay...but DB, I think we are going to see as "core."

I trust my point is made. Give us "leaf shaped" slightly-pointed elf ears. The points are, obviously, muted for half-elves...and/or easily covered by long hair. Considering there are very few salons in the wilderness, not a problem to keep covered.

But throw the WoW and anime elves back into the abyss from whence they came! They have nooooo business "in the world of" D&D.

Personally my issue with small elf ears is that it draws elves even closer into the realm of "skinny human". Not saying the ears need to be as big as say, Night Elf ears, but they should definitely be larger than a Vulcans. 4e's Eladrin ears are about a good size to me. Big enough to say "oh that's an elf!" at a quick glance, small enough to still be realistic on a humanoid. I think WoW's Blood Elf ears are probably the maximum I'd ever want to see, or allow.
