[April] What are you watching?

Finally saw The Hunger Games. A bit thin overall but not a bad movie. Wrath of the Titans will be given a pass by me based off some of the reviews from friends I have been reading.

I thought HG was a very good adaptation of the book, especially considering how many different ways they could have really messed up the movie. That said, there are a number of nuances in the book that didn't really make it into the movie. I lost track of how many times I saw something and immediately thought "someone who hasn't read the book won't really understand the importance of what just happened..."

Not saying one can't follow or enjoy the movie without first reading the book, but I think someone who's read the book will be able to better follow the movie.

[Oh, and don't bother with the other two books in the series]

It's interesting because I went to see it with someone who read the series and that is just the conclusion we came to understand. In fact, there were multiple times that I brought up something from the movie and said that I was sure there was something they left out from the book that would have added to character or explanation of some situation. The bread, both times, the leaves/wasp thing, the story behind the mentor, etc, were all examples where I, who hadn't read the books, could tell while watching the movie that something didn't make it to the final script that would have been a useful addition. For a long movie, there seems to be some very important details left out, and even with those details in, I still would have called it not a bad movie but thin. Are the books aimed toward young adults primarily, like Twilight (though obviously dealing with less self-involved themes)?

Game of Thrones season 2 starts tonight. Nothing else matters.

^This, I actually bought HBO just to get this right away. Netflix goes away until new Arrested Development, then I will reup with Netflix.

Fringe (kinda), Grimm, The Mentalist (way behind)

Finished Game of Thrones season #1. Very good.

Avengers: Earth's Mighest Heroes season #2 has started and I've been keeping up on that

Daughter and I are watching some of the early Smallvilles now.

As for movies..... not a lot of money availiable for it. For her birthday, I took the wife to see Mirror, Mirror. Whimsical and well done but not what I would normally spend so much money on. Next movie will no doubt be Avengers (see at least twice I suspect).

Current movies at theater have been out of my budget for awhile so I have been catching up with some on Netflix. I just saw Immortals which I enjoyed, the remake of Footlose which was okay.

On TV I follow Castle, Bones, The Mentalist, Grimm , Psych, In Plain Sight, Fringe.

I have been watching on Netflix streaming Monk, McMillan and Wife, Quincy.
