Twin Strike Question

OK, our crew took a break for a while (long while) and now we're stumbling on some simple rules again. Here's one on twin strike. What is the correct damage in this example:

A third level Ranger has twin strike using two swords. One is a +1 sword. She attacks using her +1 sword: 1 (1/2 level) + 3 (ability) + 3 (prof) + 1 (+1 sword) = +8, then using normal sword her attack is +7.

She rolls and scores two hits.

The damage is 1d8 + 3 (ability) + 2 (feat) + 1 (+1 sword) +2 (+2 Bracers of Mighty Striking), for a total +8, her normal sword would bring +7. She also made the target her Hunter's Quarry.

So would she roll 1d8 +8, then roll 1d8 +7, then 1d6 for total damage?

Assuming a strength score of 16 or 17, this is the correct bonus to attack (not damage!)

No. Twin strike does not add in ability damage, but other bonuses do get added in. That said, Bracers of Mighty Striking add +2 damage to basic melee attacks, but Twin Strike is not a basic melee attack! (At least, I'm pretty sure that's the case--I am away from my books at the moment.)

Furthermore, some feats (god, there are so many!) may not apply in this situation, or may not apply to both attacks. Kind of depends on the feat. Hunter's Quarry does apply once, so you've got that right.

The damage for the two hits should be 1d8 (first sword) + 2 (feat--maybe, depending on the feat) + 1 (+1 sword) + 1d8 (second sword) + 2 (feat, maybe) + 1d6 (Hunter's Quarry) for a (potential) total of 2d8 + 1d6 + 5.

Of course, if there's a leader in the party who can grant damage bonuses on hits, that works double for the twin-striking ranger, so she should definitely look into that!

Just chiming in to back up everything Rune said. (I checked compendium to verify those parts that were uncertain.)

There is a magic item that adds to (melee) twin strike damage. That is the Iron Armbands of Power. They are considerably pricier, however, being a level 6 item (as opposed to the level 2 Bracers of Mighty Striking that were mentioned in the OP).

Thanks!

Of course, those Bracers of Mighty Striking still might be a good low-level option for the ranger, particularly if there is a warlord (or more than one!) with Commander's Strike.

Thanks. As always the replies are very insightful and prove invaluable. The feat she has is Eladrin Soldier. Hopefully that feat applies to twin strike.
