So that's it for 4th edition I guess?

good riddance. I feel like im going to ride out pathfinder as long as possible. The mentality behind 5e's design isnt persuading me much.

Rule #1 of ENWorld is "Keep It Civil." Wishing something good riddance is breaking that rule. If you can articulate why you might feel this particular dislike in a way that is respectful, it'd be much better to hear. ~ KM

I have fallen out of love with all of the complex editions, but when I play Old School editions I prefer to adopt some of the better innovations provided they do not add many extra rules.

Reskinning the fluff is the best part of the Fourth Edition.

Borrowing monsters, spells and magical items from later books is also great.

I'm planning to stick with DM'ing 4E, as long as the character builder and Adventurer's Tools is available to run it. If that online support is cut off I will probably go back to 3rd edition or try Pathfinder. At this point I'm not planning to switch to DM D&D Next.

Well no offense to anyone in particular (if you love 4e and have players who love it, game on!), but I think 4e was a pretty terrible game, whether it was called D&D or not. It had all the trappings of a good game, balance, simplicity, etc., but in truth it did not play well and high-level play was just tedious. And I tried. Believe me I tried. Ultimately I found only a few good ideas I'd rather just pull out and use as house rules in other games than play 4e the way it was written.

Based on your sig, I'm afraid to hear your opinion on 2e...

You know what this thread needs? Some random, gratuitous edition warring that adds nothing, is entirely off topic and basically boils down to HAHA OKBYE. Lets make it happen.

Is this sort of thing as pervasive (and randomly so) in other edition threads?

What the heck are you talking about? Mike Mearls is a god! A GOD!!!
