D&D 5E The PHB1 Classes: Where are they now?

A long time ago, it was the intention of the D&DNext team to get "all the classes that appeared in the first PHBs of every edition" into the D&DN PHB.

How is that looking right now?

ASSASSIN: Style of the Rogue.
BARBARIAN: Core class.
BARD: Core class.
CLERIC: Core class.
DRUID: Core class.
FIGHTER: Core class.
ILLUSIONIST: Arcane Tradition of Mage/Wizard (see below).
MAGE: Core class. Currently encompasses wizard.
MONK: Core class.
MYTHOS PRIEST: Currently rolled into the Cleric's domain system.
PALADIN: Core class.
RANGER: Core class
ROGUE: Core class.
SORCERER: MIA. Currently assumed to be a subclass of Mage with Sorcery.
THIEF: Style of the Rogue.
WARLOCK: MIA. Currently assumed to be a subclass of Mage with Witchcraft.
WARLORD: College of Bard OR Fighter Path (or Both).
WIZARD: Currently assumed to be a subclass of Mage with Wizardry.

So far, that's looking like most of the classes will be in the PHB, abit as elements of others.

They never meant every PHB class would be a full class. I don't think anyone expected Illusionist and Assassin to be full classes.

Q: Will there be options for martial characters to have more fantastical, 4E style abilities?

Jeremy: We just released the knight and gladiator which are in that vein, along with a bard build reminiscent of the warlord.

Yeah. Specialty Priest, Priest of Specific Mythos, and Mythos Priest are all pretty much the same thing. 2e used different terms for it during the run.
