I wish I could have more fruitful and interesting conversations with folks who have different playstyles than mine.
Thanks. There're plenty of people with different styles from mine whose posts and conversations I really enjoy - yours, Ratskinner's, Libramarian's, LostSoul's and others.

RPGing is a broad hobby, and even D&D has a lot of different sorts of players, and it seems to me to be silly to try and identify just one style as the game.

Q: why does the buckler exist?

Serious question! It's worse than a shield but uses the same proficiency. The price difference is inconsequential.

In the old version of shield master, it at least could be used as it was in history: as a light weapon in conjunction with a sword or other weapon. The Sept playtest got rid of that.

So: why does it exist at all?

Recommend it be added to the martial weapon list as a d4 weapon with the Light quality. Or at least, restore that benefit from Shield Master.

Otherwise, if it is merely a worse shield, then recommend you simply remove it from the game as it serves no purpose. And let players describe their shields as bucklers if they wish.

I'm no threat to you, Weather Report. I have no power to discipline you over that post. I didn't- and won't- report it. But I know the rules of this site and I've been here a few years. Frankly, it reminds me of some others I have seen shortly before they became persona non grata around here.
