Fighters vs. Spellcasters (a case for fighters.)

Sure, though I am a proponent of Clausewitz's philosophy of Absolute War. But that treads too close to politics, so lets not go there.
Them may I ask what separates the heroes from the villains, other than the color of their uniforms?

Infantry wins firefights. Tanks win battles. Artillery wins wars.

Artillery is lousy for actually capturing the territory, as is sometimes necessary. Which is why we still use infantry. Artillery is great, but I wouldn't want an army made of nothing but artillery.

However, in the analogy, I would say 1st and 2nd level warriors are infantry. 10th level fighters are more akin to the tanks.

And if you are playing a caster, you are not playing a warrior, so you are missing that part of the game. There is a certain satisfaction in playing a fighter. Its in my top two classes, next to rogues, for personal satisfaction.
Except I don't know what you're getting out of playing a warrior that isn't doable with a cleric or a druid. There's no there there.

And other casters are out of luck.
The other casters don't try to fight in melee, aside from the druid who has a handy pet.

What 1-3rd level spells are there that are worth persisting and will make the caster equal or better at combat/durability than a Fighter?
Given that we are now in a caster heavy party, might I point out that one could adopt a playstyle that involves two clerics tanking the enemy while the wizard and clerics cast spells?

But to answer your question, I would be tempted to start off with Divine Favor.

More hitpoints, higher BAB, lots more feats, the ability to hit something really hard with a sword and kill it. Sure the cleric can emulate some of that, and may be just as good for a few rounds, but the fighter stays that way all the time, day and night.

If you can't see the "there," I can't help you. The experience is different enough for me, and, being solely representative of myself, it is enough for me.
