What is the Greatest Dungeon Crawl Ever Published?

Another vote for Ravenloft, if it counts.

Beyond that, my choice would be Labyrinth of Madness. It is as diabolical as S1, with a more encounters for the kick-ass inclined (which includes me).

Best NPC interaction: Dwellers of the Forbidden City, and the Lower Caves of the Darkness Beneath from Fight On! magazine #6.

Best atmosphere: the Undercity of Khosura from Fight On #10.

Best traps and tricks: White Plume Mountain, with honorable mention to Blocks of Quox from Fight On #6.

Definitely not Tomb of Horrors. The rooms only make sense in a self-contained way, and there are instances where the DM has to think for himself how different situations play out, because the whole thing is designed in a stream of consciousness kind of manner. It's a very challenging dungeon and that's as far as it gets.

I'd nominate The Temple of Elemental Evil. It's great design from beginning to end with many different ways for players to approach the tasks.

Yeah, I think ToH is really its own category -- the "Killer Dungeon". It's certainly at the top of that one.
