D&D 4E Is there any D&D 4th computer game?

4th edition, as a computer game?

Since an awful lot of 4e seemed to be based on WOW, that was my reflexive smart-alec answer.

After some thought though, it still is. 4e is World of Warcraft moved to a table top. If you want it back on the computer screen, look at WOW.

Eh. WoW didn't do it for me. "Go kill 10 wolves, and return to me. Now go kill 10 goblins and return to me." At least Neverwinter had you working your way through a battlefield. Still a lot of the "go kill X number of critters...", though. I liked D&D Online's set up a little better, for some reason. More dungeon-delving stuff, if I recall.

Unfortunately there isn't a single part of 4E based on WoW. What was based on WoW was DDi and its monthly fee.

everything from healing surges to encounter and daily powers are not in any way analogous to WoW. In WoW you just regen hp over time and through item usage with no limits. Healing Surges in 4E are a limited resource that only renew after 6 hours of rest and every 12 hours. Again nothing like WoW.

In WoW your 'powers' recover after X number of seconds. If this were carried over to an RPG it would be recovered after X number of rounds or X number of minutes. Instead in 4E you have them recover after short rests or long rests both of which can be interrupted or skipped causing your 'powers' to recover at a much slower rate. I'd be happy to go over anything you think is related to 4E and WoW and clear up any misconceptions you might still hold onto.

Every time one of these "4e is WoW" conversations comes up, I'm reminded of two things:
1) How we had "3e is Diablo" claimants back in the day from its detractors - some of whom might be the same people, to be fair.
2) How someone arguing for 4e=WoW cited magic missile, which was clearly just WoW's arcane missiles copied.

Sometimes, people forget that WoW is a derivative of Warhammer Fantasy which is a derivative of Dungeons and Dragons and that the entire CRPG industry is based on D&D concepts from 30 years ago. This is particularly true of posters who themselves aren't old enough to have been there.

Somewhat similar to when they slam Lord of the Rings for imitating Star Wars :)

I imagine this quote could stoke a whole new controversy, LOL.

R2D2 accepts the challenge to take the One Lightsaber into the Empire and throw it into the fires of Mount Sith. Along the way Obe Wan dies, but he returns more powerful than we ever could have imagined him.

Please tell me a edition prior to 2004 where the job of the fighter was it to taunt enemies away from his companions.
Come on now, the plate-clad warrior holding a shield and defending the back line was never a thing in D&D? It was always there; its mechanical implementation was just lousy.
