D&D 5E Now that "damage on a miss" is most likely out of the picture, are you happy?

Are you happy for "damage on a miss" being removed?

If it goes, the next gripe target will be along the lines of move speeds, at-will spells, healing rates, etc. It was/is so piddling that there's apparently no bottom to this rabbit hole.

This is why you don't design your game around the desires of your loudest objectors.

The trolls who will never buy a 5e book are not driving the ship Obryn, the people who will actually buy the game are.

And at-will attack cantrips and hit dice are here to stay.

Twitter.

Hardly a veto, but it raises the chances of it being out of the "core" (even if it pops up elsewhere at some point).

It's probably a good call, though I can't say I was personally really worried about it.

Thank you. I agree, it's hardly conclusive. 5e is design by committee, and just because he disagrees with the rule doesn't mean it's automatically excised.

I'm happier as a result of this. But I won't be truly happy until I have the finished game in my hands and it is good. Until then, it's a mix of hope and dread.

Basically Mike Mearls has said that "damage on a miss" has problems and I feel it will most likely be removed from the final game. Are you happy with this decision?

I know I am.

Ummm, it hasn't been removed, but don't let facts get in the way of fanatical beliefs.

A tweet that says, and I quote "I'm personally not crazy about it - causes a lot of questions about how stuff interacts at the table." does not mean it's removed.

Personally, I'd rather it was replaced with something better, but in the absence of better it is good enough.

I see this as another victory for "hit points are meat," which I don't agree with at all, so nope, not happy. It removes some of the design space and keeps a hit equal to an actual hit, which I'm not a fan. It's a world where "vicious mockery" makes less and less sense, and that's one of my favorite powers, so...

Is it enough to make me not buy the edition? Of course not, but taken as part of a whole, we're getting there.

Now that it's gone I bet you can't wait to buy D&D Next right.

Or will you find something new to whine about?

I advise you, and everyone else, to avoid making it personal. If you don't want to address the subject of the thread, move along, please.

(Ah. KM beat me to it. Still stands - don't make it personal, folks!)
