D&D 5E how many 5e supporters are upset about the possible $50 price tag

How did the price of $50 effect you?

I think its crazy to find 50 dollars for a PHB to seem unreasonable. Now I could see 50 dollars being too much for what is eventually offered content wise, but I cant evaluate that at the moment. I am a little surprised at the amount of people upset over this to be honest.

I'm upset because I do not put $50 down for games... I find it crazy that people aren't more upset about it...

MY first thought was someone was going to have a 500 page blog on how wotc is nothing but a money grabing horrid company... now I don't agree with that. I do think it could make it a game I can't afford though...

1st i own none of those games, and of them only 2 make my maybe list (new shadow run and new starwars)

You know what makes them all seperate from D&D thiugh... 1 book buy in instead of 3

Aside from the fact that we don't really know how the Next book(s) will be laid out and presented, there is the fact that all of these systems do indeed have more books for sale for the line, some quite useful to play.

Also, just pointing out that it can't really be crazy if all of these RPG lines are going for that price point. Might not be what you were personally hoping for, but it's, in fact, quite normal.

I picked "I was a 5e supporter but the price tag has me uneasy about it." But to clarify, the $50 price tag won't keep me from buying the game, necessarily - but it does make me worry about Wizards' plans for 5E. $50 is a common price for books aimed at RPG hobbyists, but it's not the price you want to attract casual and new players. Even if the PHB is not essential to playing the game, it still seems like a bad idea.

Well, biased polls are sort of the norm, and yes, I do tend to skip them.

As for me I am interested in what they will do with 5E, but have not decided what I will do with the books.

I'll add that I'm more concerned about the price point of the PH than I would be if it were price at, say, $40. I shelled out a chunk for PF's Core Rulebook, but I was getting the PH and most of the DMG in a single volume. For D&D, I'm expecting the traditional 3 volumes, all about the same $50 price. And that's a bigger hit on the wallet just to get up to speed.

Plus, I don't consider the price point of the other games as being indicative of what WotC must charge. Their economy of scale can be expected to be a lot bigger than anything but Pathfinder so their prices wouldn't have to be as high. Rather, I suspect some element of what they think they can get given the prices of other materials is involved.

THose other RPGs costing 50 or 60 bucks only require 1 book for the complete rules. Pathfinder is PHB and DMG and is large. The other (clones) D&Ds are also cheaper than WoTC apparent price. Also inflation doesn't really explain a $35 to $50 jump since 2008.

Just speculating here but I have a feeling the PHB is going to have a lot of content in it. I picture it being like getting the PF CRB (-DMG) and the PF APG in one volume. Add nice art work plus hardcover and yeah I can see 50 dollars for that. With that said, I also hope they offer discounted PDFs for people who prefer a digital format or desire a cheaper purchase.
