In summary, the Starter Set is a box of basic rules used to teach people new to Dungeons and Dragons.

The Dungeon Master's Guide will not only be a tomb of modular optional rules.. (think of the modular way we have all been rolling ability scores ), but it will suggest ways we can convert not only other editions of Dungeons and Dragons, but other Role Playing Systems into a 5th edition multi-modular format!

I think we all know this. :)

I'm super excited! This is the third new edition countdown I've waited for on EricNoah's/ENWorld (3E, 4E, and now 5E), and it's a pretty exciting process; each morning when I refresh the news page, it's a little bit like opening one of the little doors on an advent calendar before Christmas.

I loved 4E, but it took me a few years to really realize that wasn't hitting certain spots for me. I especially loved 4E Essentials, because it felt like "retro-4E"--a step back towards old-school gaming, but with the design wisdom learned from the years and decades passed--but even Essentials didn't go far enough.

I've always had a soft-spot for 1E; the first D&D books I read were 1E AD&D from a public library. 5E looks like it's bringing back all of the flavour I loved, but without all the confusion and ridiculousness that came with early D&D.

I can't wait!

I have been playing D&D with the same group of guys since around 1982 when I was eight years old. While we all liked 3.0, we never really took to 3.5 or 4E, and thought everything after 2E was a bit too detailed/complex for our style of gaming.

We have participated throughout the playtest, and are really excited to see that the final product seems to be leaning more towards a game that is our style.

The game has pretty much been around my whole life, from watching the D&D cartoon as a kid, playing long campaigns over summer vacations from school, to going on camping trips and playing into the wee hours as an adult. The 5th Edition PHB comes out on my 40th birthday, and that speaks a little to fate for me.

Can't wait to test out the rules with the Starter Set and start playing a Tyranny of Dragons campaign with the same three guys I first explored The Keep on the Borderlands with.

I'm excited about 5E as well, even after playtesting for 2 1/2 years. I am anxious to finally hold in my hands the physical product, and can't wait to start playing with the final rules. I especially want to see the modular rules, something of which the playtest so far hasn't revealed much. It's going to be a long month (2 months) (5 months). But it's like looking forward to Christmas, but it's coming 6 times in the next 6 months!

Im so excited as well! Been playtesting it for so long and seen it evolved through so many iterations that knowing its finally coming out in just a couple of weeks is exciting!!
