Elves are.... Half-elves are half-.....

You know, being gay I have no personal experience with the slang term used here, but my understanding is those things take quite a pounding - not to mention the ability to bring an entire HUMAN BEING into the world through one. I don't understand why so many, then, seem to use this term as an insulting synonym for 'weak' - 'insanely powerful' would seem a far more accurate slang usage.

Perhaps we could discuss the rules without the casual misogyny?

Mod edit/note: For the future - if you dislike a particular use of language, don't reproduce it in quotes. If you do, we then have to hunt down multiple copies of it to remove it. Thanks. ~Umbran

I thought they were a myth, an urban legend invented in the charop forums as a cautionary tale.
:)
"I heard he took Skill Focus AND Toughness as his 1st level feats....and he liked it! They weren't even requirements for a prestige class!"

Sorry, it seems I should've used a different word instead. The kidding tone was lost in translation. Didn't mean to offend anyone, mea culpa.

Half-Elf...+2 to Cha, +1 Dex, +1 Con, +2 Skills lets you play the Sneaky, Charming Face of the party who kicks ass in melee

aka Noble Background, Fighter (Dex Based), with Stealth and Perception as additional skills...

You can start with 14 charisma, 16 Dex, 16 Con, 11 Wis, 10 Int/Str

not half bad at all....

I will just add this, I consider myself to be a min/maxing optimizer who builds his character and doesn't create them, for an upcoming campaign I am playing a half-elf bard.

Bard, because they are some of the most versatile casters in the game maybe the best, and can gish eventually pretty well. Half-elf because they make amazing bards, sorcerers, and warlocks.

One of the other players was sad, when he realized none of the races has a +2 wisdom modifier for his cleric.

What I like about the new system is that it also allows me to think "concept first" and work out the stats without totally sucking

For example, making a charming, sneaky, fighter who grew up in his father's dueling academy... try and make that character in 3.X and you suck for quite a few levels, you can't even try and make that guy in 4e...

I said fighter, not Rogue.. or Ranger... and hell no, not a bard... fighter

I think you need to re-do the point buy math....I'm coming up with 29 to buy those stats and one only gets 27 for point buy.
to get the above before the racial modifiers the stats would be:
CHA 12 = 4
DEX 15 = 9
CON 15 = 9
WIS 11 = 3
STR 10 = 2
INT 10 = 2
Total = 29

Easy fix is making either STR or INT an 8
