D&D 5E Confused - Mark

AsmodeusDM

First Post
So...

referring to Mark on pg 271 of the DMG:

- Is this an Action meaning you use it as a replacment for your normal attack action?
- Can anyone/everyone do this? Fighters? Wizards? Monsters?
- The Opportunity attack doesn't expend reaction... but limited to one opportunity attacker per turn. Not sure what this means?

Any help?

Uh... you are aware that the DMG isn't officially out, even at stores that are part of the WotC Organized Play network, right?

If anything, quote the whole text about marking, and then people will be more able to respond.

We don't have the book yet! Hopefully on Friday a few folks will be able to take a stab at your question!

"When a creature makes a melee attack, it can also mark its target. Until the end of the attacker's next turn, any opportunity attack it makes against the marked target has advantage. The OA doesn't expend the attacker's reaction. THe attacker is limited to one opportunity attacker per turn."

There is not enough on your quote to know who gets to use these optional rules.

The mark just seems to be a rider on a regular Attack and not its own action. The OA thing means that if you mark three orcs and each provokes an OA before your next turn then you can make an OA against each one since they all act on individual turns.

I think "opportunity attacker" is a misprint for "opportunity attack". IOW, doing an Opportunity Attack doesn't expend their reaction, but they still only get one OA per turn.

It figures that the Devil would get the DMG before the rest of us can.
