Just got my copy of the DMG today, will gladly answer any questions, and I was just wondering if anyone of you who has read it, feels like it's met the expectations that Wizards put on the book?

We got a lot of hype about the book and how much it was supposed to contain so are you happy with what's there or did it fall short?

I will answer my own thread when I have had time to read it.

For me definitely. It exceeds my wildest hopes. I love it and as of now it has dethroned the draconomicon (3.5) as my favorite book.

I don't have it yet, but what i have read in many reviews and seen in the previews and read from posters here, it sounds fantastic. I think that as they start rolling out cut material (probably in January) we'll start seeing many more gaps filled. Oh, i wish it could have been a 450 page behemoth of a book. I would have gladly paid extra.

Yes. Easily. Granted, I'd like to have seen a more robust castle buiding section like in 1e DMG (I still have that book, and it's still easily usable in 5e so nothing lost there). But in my opinion, it does an overall excellent job. Outstanding even. Tons of guidelines on how to create your world, towns, encounter areas, NPCs, and monsters. As far as information goes, this is second only to the 1e DMG. TONS of random tables to help you create things on the fly. And it's written a lot better and more user friendly. It also does a great job of recognizing different styles of play, and how to best run your table with the style you prefer.

Art is great too. And all the full color blank maps in the back is a very nice touch. And as a guy who stuck with AD&D all these years and never went to 3e or 4e? The optional rules on mitigated healing and and training time to level make it feel a lot like AD&D in play.

No, it hasn't lived up to the hype.

It's a good book. Judging it solely on its own merits, I'd give it an A-. However, it only gets a C+ from me when I include the fluffed-up expectations about it being guide to hacking the game.

I love the DMG. For me, it's everything it should be.

It may be a small thing, but I especially like the cover. I love dragons and all, but I'm more of a Lich guy and so I'm happy they went with one. The Sauron of my world is a Lich Lord.

The only real gripe I have with 5th Ed, if you can even call it a gripe, is I wish they would have found, or created a new world. Something fresh where little is known. I'm kinda burnt out on Drizzt and friends. That being said, I will purchase Realms stuff as it becomes available, and try to look at it with fresh eyes, as well as steal the things I like for my own world.

There are a few bits of modularity that I wish they'd explored in more depth.

That said, I can flip the book open to any page and find something fascinating to read.
