D&D 5E (2014) 5E Novels?

Anyone know if WotC has any post 5E novels out / coming out?

Previous edition releases had a few that were enjoyable, in a pulpy sort of way.

I imagine they have new Forgotten Realms novels planned. We know Salvatore and Evans are working on some. Dunno about any other writers, let alone other worlds.

Not having read any of the D&D novels, where's a good place to start? Judging by the titles, many of those seem like part of a series. Are any starting a new series? Stand alone?

I've been coming back to the novels recently; they're something of a mixed bag.

I found both The Adversary and The Companions to be good books that you could read without knowing too much backstory (the links are to my reviews of the books), although I'd probably suggest starting from Erin M Evans first novel with those characters, Brimstone Angels - her books are really good to read.

The Sentinel also works really well as a stand-alone book and I found it really enjoyable (I haven't written a review yet, alas!).

Incidentally, "The Sundering" series is only very loosely a series. It's far more a cross-over event where elements of the Sundering affect various ongoing series. The branding is terribly confusing. It's not a good idea to read Sundering 1 through 6 (especially because #2 is really hard if you haven't read the previous books by the author).

I would certainly say she is the best writer amongst them at the moment, however I don't actually find her books very 'D&D' like at all. Light on combat and adventure but heavy/strong on politics and character. They are also a fantastic source of Forgotten Realms lore and I like they way she integrates the 3e - 4e - 5e canon changes with story rather than sweeping it under the carpet, the succubus storyline being a good example. It kind of depends on what mood I'm in but sometimes I prefer the simple adventure style stories that Ed or Bob create, even given a slightly tired format. I also wish Paul S Kemp was writing something new for FR

What recent~ish books are not set in FR? I am FR'ed out when it comes to my trashy ~ brain switched off ~ de-stress D&D novel reading. I love all the awesome complex & gritty fantasy that is out there, but sometime you just want a mental break!
