Is this the same as a sling? I'm talking about damage and range.

Not really- he's using his leg like a longer arm, presumably to increase the force of the "throw", and change its point of release. I'd treat it as a thrown weapon, maybe with bonuses due to the acrobatic skill of the wielder.

Thrown/hurled weapon. Dex bonus to attacks, str bonus to damage, probably a step below dagger. IMO. I haven't looked at 5e recently to remember how weapons work exactly, so tweak as necessary.

Yeah definitely a thrown weapon I'd say. Why not say that it has range increments of 10ft? I'm not sure if 5E still does rang increments... Ooh, another idea is that you could say its range increment is 2ft per point of Strength of the wielder.
Damage would seem to be pretty low... like 3 or 4, and add Str as Nellisir said above.

How's that idea sound? Cool weapon though... great for surprise - who would see that coming?

Yes, I know!


Now I'm not too savvy when it comes to combat operations (the rules change faster than I can keep up), but it seems to me that a weapon like that would enable one to get a free shot off before an actual combat round even takes place.


I'm wondering, what would this weapon be called? A football?

Hahaha, yeah a football comes to mind. It would be great for surprise!

For me, I would have players roll a check to see if they can surprise the opponent (roll using Cha + Stealth - so for D20 based games, add your Cha bonus instead of Dex to Stealth), or roll Cha + Bluff for D20 games. Either could work. And if you get the jump on the opponent then BAM! surprise attack!

I think it would be pretty cool if the ball could explode too. Hahaha. Hot potato.

Yes that's true. It could make for an interesting character as he flings all sorts of random missiles at people - gas, sleep, magical, piercing...whatever really. It would be a bit of an interesting twist on the old sapper concept!
