D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

Dent pointed the tip of his longsword in the direction of the stairs and doorway across the garden. "If we enter that way, we could sweep the monastery from the rear, exiting out the front doors when we're done." Dent moved in that direction to AH11 as he spoke. He eyed the remaining statue, ready to topple it over if need be.

OOC: A little detail I missed was that one other room is visible from above (is exposed to the sky). It is occupied by more statues as well.

This long, narrow court is paved in red sandstone. To the north stands the main temple or shrine of the monastery, its copper-sheathed doors emblazoned with a triangular symbol. Doors also exit the court at its east and west ends, and several narrow windows pierce the south wall. Gargoyle statues guard the door, each facing the court with a ferocious leer.

Tolan is breathing heavily as he returns to his senses. He scowls for a moment at his sword's edge, blunted and nicked from struggles against the rocks themselves. Heedless of his surrounds, he drops to his knees, extracting oil and stone from his pack, and starts smoothing out the worst of the damage.

"This battle did not go well for us. My concern is that if we push further, we will encounter more guardians as durable as these, but accompanied by real threats. Without some means to address such foes, I am not sure we should press ahead."

OOC: I think if we have the reported information of the other open area that has even more gargoyle looking statues...

"I agree with the elf... well, that specific elf, at least." Damien replied glancing around at all the pointed ears. "We may want to consider withdrawing for now."

The warlock does take a closer look at the humanoid statues. "Marvelous craftsmanship..." he whispered.

Carradoc says nothing about his attempt to blast the remaining statue, and is grateful that it is not mentioned. They've defeated the occupants of the garden, and he begins by moving through the space along the paths, searching for indications for other dangers ad perhaps resources that could help them. He looks particularly at the bases of the remaining statues.

He rejoins the conversation as retreat is discussed. "If we leave now, we will not have the opportunity of surprise again," he suggests. Yes, this was a challenge, but we could perhaps block off one of the two garden entrances to prevent being trapped, and cautiously make our way forward into this building, which..." (he says with unsubtle irony) "...is not the monastery it purports to be. Even if we wait here, we should be able to wear down anyone coming through tis garden, and sill maintain the means of escape if needed."

He looks particularly at the bases of the remaining statues.

With the exception of the remaining gargoyle statue, all of the statues in this courtyard seem to have been simply set upon round stone bases. The statues are in-fact separate from the stone bases, with the exception of that one statue.

"Fair point..." Damien replied. His curiosity was really getting the better of him; his eyes kept flicking to the final gargoyle statue. Whispering a quick incantation of protection, he moved in front of the statue to inspect it more closely.

OOC: Casting Blade Ward
Damien will touch the Pride statue, pushing it to see if there's any response

There is no response to Damien pushing the statue. The stone is heavy and extremely well done. Every bit of the creature seems to match in intricate detail to the monsters you just fought. The statue's mouth is smirking with such a gloriously overconfident face. It's arms are flexing mightily. It's wings are fully spread, as if it felt itself the king of this land.

Pride, huh? Damien thought to himself as he prepared an insult. "This one must not be alive, look at the terrible quality of the workmanship! It looks like a blind otyugh kneaded its own dung into a statue of its mother."

Damien waited to see if the statue tried to tear his head off. If not, he shrugged. "Maybe we should rest for a bit before moving on? I'm mostly good to go."
