D&D 5E Cragmaw Castle (possible LMoP spoilers)

As the upper levels have mostly collapsed, wouldn't that mean you can just climb over any of the walls or piles of rubble? On the other hand the module says there is dim light anywhere in the castle with the only light source being the arrow slits. That would mean that the ceiling is still fully intact. But I just can't imagine the upper levels of a tower collapsing without part of the ceiling at least getting some big holes too. Thoughts?

I assume the structure is built like this: Stone foundation, stone wall and outer towers, stone reinforced walls on the first level, wooden walls and ceilings from there on up.
The second floor could understandably collapse but still leave the first floor mostly stable. The towers and outer wall would also remain mostly intact, with a few small collapses here and there.

Think of it like this:

Basically, the image shows ruins but they are still largely intact. You have the roof collapsed in, windows, slits here n there and that sort of thing but the lower sections appear to be pretty solid. So although the top sections are damaged and in a state of advanced disrepair, the lower sections would fit the description of Cragmaw Castle right? Some sections are more damaged than others but the floors of the upper sections offer roofs for the lower ones, giving the described effect. You have to think multi level.

So you are saying the ceiling on the first floor is still intact and that's why there's only dim light?

I was mostly unsure because one of my player was like "The tower has almost completely collapsed? Does that mean I can just climb over the walls and enter it from the top?", but I guess the answer would be that even if he climbs it, he won't be able to get down to the first floor.

I'd love to have a drawn or painted image of Cragmaw Castle, and some of the other locations in the adventure. I hope it becomes enough of a classic to get that kind of fan treatment.

Thank you, I used it as a visual aid when I ran LMoP. The advantages of having a tv screen connected to the computer next to the gaming table ;)

To be completely honest I'm not 100% sure. It's a beautiful scenery though and since it gave the right idea for what Cragmaw is described I used it when I ran the module. I'm sure someone could do some kind of back search and find out with some google fu
