D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

The sentry ascends to level 3, then proceeds to inspect all four doors. At roughly this point, Thurl opens his chamber doors (room S10), greets the watchman formally, and hands him a envelope with a wax seal. The man seems to salute, and then begin walking up towards the pinnacle.

Carradoc is content with the knowledge he has, and wanders over to the door to see if he'd be able to jimmy the lock in such a way as to prevent the door from shutting properly. He's just curious, really.

Thaliss instructs his familiar to continue watching the sentry. If nothing else happens, Thaliss will recall his familiar and will meet up with the others in the stables, invite them to go back to the hall. He then relays the conversation he had with Thurl. He questions Maighan about any affiliation with a fire cult, and tries to see if she is lying or hiding anything.

Maighan gazes at Thaliss impassively. "I'm here to investigate the druids," she reminds him. "The Circle of the Scarlet Moon appears to be relatively new, and their call is very unusual. It's attracted attention, which I represent."

"So the question is if he is genuinely concerned about these cults, or is he hoping to distract our attentions away from himself and these 'knights?'"

She's either telling the truth, or is an impressive liar.

It should be quite possible.

Once at the pinnacle the sentry takes off his cloak. He seems to be in a snug uniform with leathery flaps along the arms, waist, and legs. Then pulls a leather cap from his bag and places it on his head, followed by a pair of lensed goggles. He looks, perhaps, silly as he sits with his back against the outer edge of the tower. He then flops off the tower, falling out of sight in the fog.

Thaliss relates this to the others. Telepathically, he adds, Whatever is in that letter, it probably isn't in our advantage. Perhaps we could "borrow" some mounts for a night's flying practice?

Looking at the lock, Carradoc is more blunt. He hears the voice and speaks aloud.
"If we're taking the mounts, we would not be wise to bring them back. Practice alone is of no interest to me."

ooc: FYI, Thaliss was being sarcastic; his proposition is to go after the flying sentry. I'll wait for Tolan's and Maighan's actions/comments before responding.

"Are you sure?" Maighan asks. "If this is not the public face of an elemental cult, we would be stealing from a well-intentioned, if somewhat bumbling, group of people and cutting ourselves off from potential allies."

Tolan considers the matter. He somehow produced a blade of grass to chew on as he thought. "Well... it could be any number of things, but my gut doesn't like coincidence. We were already ambushed by vulture riders. There can't be that many groups wrangling vultures in the Dessarin Valley. Not to mention we haven't seen hide nor hair of the girl we're trying to find. Something's not right and I imagine that message may shed some light on the situation."
