D&D 5E Wanting more content doesn't always equate to wanting tons of splat options so please stop.

However, the topic is continually raised by the OP and any counter argument is dismissed or never acknowledged.

The problem with the internet sometimes is that people assume their counter argument has done it's job and the discussion is over. I have seen a lot of counter arguments but they just seem to branch off into other arguments because they tend to raise more questions than they do answers. I don't have to dismiss arguments, if I think they are wrong then I will flat out say it. I don't resort to immature snipe remarks that some on here seem to do. "OH GOD NOT ANOTHER CORPSETAKER THREAD!"

There are a few here who think the way to win an argument is to shout over them and come up with snide remarks. Others try to win them with deception and not telling of the "whole" story. Dancing around the CoC is what some people here love to do to try and win an argument.

I don't follow this logic at all.

It's called discouragement. People who have left the game are increasingly unlikely to return to the game and buy a general content release if it's just going to be another 2-3 years before they get more. Similarly, those on the edge are also going to he hesitant to spend money for the same reasons.

To me, that sounds not as though the reviews are an actual waste of your time, you just haven't appropriately adjusted your view - you are expecting a highly-rated review from a reviewer with obviously different, nearly to the point of being opposite, tastes to your own to be good in your opinion, when you should be recognizing that if a reviewer that likes what you can't stand says "This is great!" it is identical to you to a reviewer that likes exactly what you like saying "This is awful."

Which is not really hard to do - just look at the reviews available from a particular source (local newspaper, rotten tomatoes, a youtuber, etc.) and see how that source reviewed a movie you've already seen, and assume that their general opinion will be as similar to your own as their review of that film is to your own thoughts (example: I look and see if a review source has given a rating for Army of Darkness, and if they say it sucked, I know to treat their review as an opposite - they give a high rating, I skip the film. They tank something, or even better refuse to even bother reviewing because they already know they'll hate it, I'll make sure I catch the film in theaters rather than waiting for a rental service or Netflix to have it).

Reviews have been proven to not be useful when determining how a movie is except to that specific person. It's all about our specific tastes in movies. There are a lot of factors involved that movie reviews just cannot take into account.

You equated making friends, which you can see and assess for truthfulness, to online ratings which you can't. There's no way to tell a truthful positive review from a untruthful one.

The rest of us deal with these obstacles with ease. Sounds tough, man. You have my sympathies. :)

Uh... yeah... what are you trying to say?

Of course a review is only that person giving the review providing their opinion - that's why the successful use of a review is not to take the rating it gives as objective fact, but to find where that person's tastes do or do not line up with your own, such that, as an example, I can say to my buddy Nick "I saw this film on Netflix, and I think you'd like it, because I got a kick out of it." and he will most likely actually find the film enjoyable because he and I have similar tastes. Or my friend Sean can say "I didn't think the food was that good." to me about a restaurant and I can feel confident in not trying it out for myself because he and I have the same taste in food.

If you are trying to say that reviews have been proven to not be useful when used in that way - to be specific, if you are saying that my belief that Holly Conrad saying she liked the Doctor Strange movie means it is likely that I will enjoy the movie because her and I share a love of the Doctor Strange comics - then I am going to have to ask you to cite sources, because that sounds incredible.

Given that the vast majority of these releases are not in stores, so I can't examine them closely(even if I had the time), there's no way for me to make any use of the reviews.

I don't know. Sounds awful. I don't know how you cope with these insurmountable life obstacles!

You already know the answer to that. I don't buy third party stuff anymore. I'm not going to play battleship with third party products and hope I get a random "hit".
