I'm a little confused by this question... so before I answer I'll just ask... is their some meaning in having gold elf in quotes and the word must surrounded by asterisks?
I'd hoped putting "gold elf" in quotes highlighted the notion that they could probably use more definition. What exactly is meant by "gold elf", anyway? And asterisks, AFAICT, around the internet tends to denote emphasis. At least that's how I've seen them used when applied in this manner. Sorry if it was confusing. Hope that helps you so you can answer.

Got it... Well gold elves are from Forgotten Realms and they were changed to Eladrin during the 4e era. I guess technically if you played in a home game and your DM was an agreeable sort you could re-skin an Elf as a gold elf... though it would still be a little off. Of course if you played in Encounters that wasn't really an option...

Please don't "confuse" others any *more* than they already are.

So I will put you down in the "does not care about *canon*" category then?

Actually that reminds me of the joke about being asked if you want to play DnD and then you get given a folder filled with house rules except inserting Forgotten Realms instead,

Oh, you meant Sun Elves. Got it. Per the FR Wiki:

The sun elves, also sometimes known as gold elves, sometimes as high elves due to their stereotypically elitist ways...

Of course, 4e *had* high elves. "Problem" solved.

One of us is extremely confused. I thought I wasn't. But then you posted this. Now I'm not so sure it isn't me.
