D&D 5E Acererack is a WHAT???

Lenny J

First Post
Acererack (ah•sehr•ur•ak), or as my brother pronounces him Actylcolene, is the very well known Lich villain from D&D and has made his reappearance in the Tomb of Annihilation. So this begs the question... This guy has the opportunity to ascend to Godhood and instead makes Dungeons to lure PCs to their death and creates false deities to kill PCs. That being said why does he do such a thing?
There is an age old rumor about the Players Characters getting strong enough to eventually fight the Dungeon Master; but it is just that: a rumor, or so I thought.
Acererack is the OG Dungeon Master!

Well, ToA answers all of this. Firstly, it's pronounced "ah-SAIR-ak". And he doesn't want to be a god because "he prefers to create gods and unleash them upon mortals."

It was someone on here - maybe Jasper? - who described Acererak as 'a troll', in the Internet sense of the word. I think that ToA kind of backs that up.

The dude just really likes pissing people off. Maybe soon he'll start complaining about Chris Perkins in Sigil's newspapers?

That is not correct. I saw it in the book, but they are wrong. Even Perkins corrects someone in one of his recent TOA interviews who pronounced it incorrectly.

Gary pronounced it- Ah-sair-eh-rack. And Perkins does too.

now pronounce Gloucester.

Or Worcestershire.

That would be "Glow-ster" and "Wuhs-tuh-sheer." But the lich's name is not "Acestererak" ;P

...Note to self: next lich in campaign, name "Acestererak" and make the death-game a riddle to "properly" pronounce their name./Note.

Just going by the book. which apparently is wrong???

You're kidding?! Which book? If that's what the Tomb of Annihilation says, then YES! hahaha. It's wrong!

The OP had it correct (and phonetically spelled out better than I could). 4 syllables. "Ah-'sair-er-ak."

Or, if you prefer "Ah-'sair-uhr-ak" or maybe even "Ah-'sair-<don't know the keycode for a schwa>-rak."
