D&D 5E I need Rogue/Paladin/Bard MC advice please.

We will for sure have an oath of devotion paladin, a ranger (whichever archetype gets horde breaker), and a pact of tomes warlock. We have a player who usually can’t come do to work that is a barbarian if some sorts. I’m the only one who hasn’t decided on my class yet and the DM, my brother, doesn’t care when we do everything or what we play as so long as we are ready in time for our next session which is Saturday night.

If you can live without sneak attack and without expertise in thiefs tools, criminal background + bard will be sufficient.

You get all the skills you need.
You will have jack of all trades and won't miss the loat 2 skills too much.
Half elf will give you perfect stats and you can get back the skills you lost.

You get all the ability increases you need. And if you somehow really miss expertize in zhief's tools yoj can still multiclass at some point. You won't miss the one skill you lost by not starting rogue.

Your stats can easily be:
Str 12
Dex 16
Con 14
Int 8
Wis 10
Cha 16

That is a good start for a blade bard.
You are a bit endangered by wisdom saves but that's something you have to live with.

You could swap the low stats aroumd a bit. If you are sure you will stay with light armor, Str 8 is sufficient and both int and wis can be 2 higher.

Thanks for the input. I like both ideas either lore or swords. I’d prefer swords because I still like to hit things with weapons and not go all spells, but I’ll definitely give lire a strong consideration.

the stats I rolled are 12, 16, 16, 14, 8, 10. I can assign them however I want to fit my chosen class. I was also given the option to instead choose point buy or standard array after rolling the dice. Any thoughts on which I should choose? I'm having a hard time letting go of expertise in Thieves' tools. has anyone ever ran a trapper as a full bard, and if so how did it measure up to a rogue with expertise? Turns out I read prodigy incorrectly and I get just a proficiency in any tool, and expertise in any skill. So that option is out. Thanks.

The stats that you've rolled are better than average, I'd say keep them.

As for the Thieves Tools - they are not a catch-all or only tool for disarming traps. Some Traps cannot be disarmed at all, some can be broken/avoided once encountered, third are activated by enemies etc. Do not worry, your group won't die because you'll roll half a dozen checks during a campaign with a bonus two or three points lower than usual. At the end of the day, ask Tome Warlock to take Guidance as one of his cantrips to be extra safe.

I notice in that mishmash attempt at optimization that you've completely left out details of your actual character.

Not saying he's "having the wrong kind of fun" , but if someone showed up to my table with a build like that, I'd ask for a detailed backstory of how the character ended up like that. Dor me, there is no MC for exclusively "mechanical reasons".

What details would you like? I have said what roles I want to fill, I have narrowed it down to what classes I’m considering and why I’m considering them. I have also pointed out concepts that I’m interested in, but since my character isn’t even created yet everything is speculation. As far as role playing my character I tend to be the type to not break promises, but look for ways around promises such as if I were to say I will not kill you doesn’t mean I have to save you. It just means that I will not kill you. I like things that are fluff, but I don’t like it when I’m not practical or don’t hold my own weight. I tend to crack jokes to keep the mood light and am pretty level headed and that comes out in my character. I enjoy being the face, but I also let my allies shine and that’s why I like the versatility of the bard. If I happen to be in a party with someone who specializes in one aspect I just don’t use it or invest time in it. I also enjoy the idea of being the “secret” leader. Making suggestions and being kind of manipulative. I know none of this says anything about my character , but it implies how it could very well end up being.
