Han Solo movie incoming....

The Falcon looks a lot longer in that image than usual. The slightly different paint job makes sense, but the different shape makes me think this might not be a genuine image.

Agreed. The "prongs" on the front are longer, and the middle raised bar appears to go the full length instead of stopping partway. The deflector dish is positioned differently than on the Falcon as well. The saucer main body has an additional thick ring missing from the legitimate ship, and it appears the side airlock doors are of a different design. The one in that image also has a much smoother outer body, while the Falcon itself was much rougher.

I think it's an entirely different ship from the Falcon, maybe even a different class. If that is the ship of the movie, then it implies the Falcon might have been acquired later.

Unless they're doing a JJ Abrams-style reboot...

The nose section is significantly different - elongated, and, as ArchfiendBobbie noted, without a gap in them.

However, bear in mind that the Falcon is a heavily-modified YT-1300, and Han claims to have made a lot of the modifications himself. That may be how it looked originally as a stock model, before being tinkered with over several years.

MarkB Maybe. But if so, that's a retcon of the Falcon's history. It was originally a freight pusher for orbit; that's why it had the cockpit to the side instead of the YT-standard central cockpit.

What history? As of Disney, the only history the Falcon has is what we've seen in the movies.

MarkB I thought Force Awakens: Incredible Cross Sections was canon due to being written and published after Disney acquired Star Wars?

Perhaps, but I doubt they'll let themselves be tied down by it. In any case, plenty of depictions of YT-1300s other than the Falcon have used the side cockpit, so even if it's not the default version, it's likely a standard option rather than an after-market modification.

Seems like more major surgery than Han and Chewie would be able to do. That’s like a major hull reconstruction.

Maybe the Falcon crashed into something turning it into a squat version of itself. Kinda like how pugs are made by letting normal dogs run into walls.

I fear this movie will be a disaster. I was pretty disappointed by Rogue One already, and would not be surprised if this turns out to be a similar mess. That said, I hope of course it defies my predictions and is actually good. We'll have to wait and see.
