For playable subraces that leaves Wood, High, and Sea Elves I think for D&D beyond. Which they'd had D&D Beyond videos for the SCAG and VGTM.

Hmm, to me it sounds like he is hinting that cambion will be a playable race. But I could easily be wrong.

No, he’s describing features that can be substituted in the MM Cambion to simulate half-fiends of other parentages. Still monsters, but more variant options for uses of the stat block.

Archdevil and Archdemons from OotA are confirmed to be in.

I look forward to the day when the "new" book consists entirely of stuff they've already printed elsewhere. With maybe 50 pages of stuff you could easily look up on the internet thrown in to pad the page count.

They did that back in 4e, it was a hard cover book filled with stuff that was first published in Dragon magazine.

I'm assuming that particular brainstorm idea is dead, given that we have aasimar, genasi, and now a variety of tieflings.

That brain storm occurred after Genasi, Tieflings (including variants), and Aasimar were already published.

Honestly I think a more traditional planetouched can be made simply by a human variant taking the Magic Inniate (Sorcerer) Feat, and the right skill and language choices.

Planetouched descended from Succubi, pick Infernal (or Abyssal) language, Deception skill, Charm Person, and the Friendship and Minor Illusion cantrips for example.

Planetouched descended from an Azar maybe you take Firebolt, Absorb Elements, Bonfire, Primordial Language, Athletics.

Was it after the Aasimar in Volo's Guide to Monsters?

The genasi and SCAG tieflings are pretty much exactly traditional. The Volo's aasimar are a bit of a different take, but still can encompass the traditional concepts.

Sure, it could still happen, but I think it's more likely not to.

I have zero issues with monsters from the APs being reprinted in general monster books. Do you expect DMs to all purchase a full AP (OotA in this case) just for the 10 pages or so of monsters? While I agree with your sentiment in some cases, this is definitely an exception to that...

(And in any case, reprinting monsters from adventures in monster books is just about as old as the game itself)
