D&D 5E Storm King's Thunder

Tranio loves life, and the opportunity to spend some time at a casino is welcome to him. As the guests arrive, he finds someone who looks rich to spend time with -- he's not gambling, but he's happy to tell stories or listen or whatever's on offer, as long as he is enjoying himself.

OOC: Insight to find a generous mark: [roll0]. Tranio is a good listener.
Persuasion to be charming, pleasant company for the evening: [roll1] (with advantage if they are drinking and generous? [roll2]).

Evening
Round 0

Dren didn’t much like the idea of the security lady following them around. It offended his sensibilities that she should think they were the trouble when there was a boat full of people trying to flush their money into the river. The monk settled himself at the bar with an ale for much of the trip, in a place well away from the water. He is friendly enough, but it is clear he isn’t dropping any coin on the tables, so he is soon left to his own devices.

Tranio - half-elf death cleric
Fistan - human wizard
Carolina - halfling rogue
Dren - dwarf monk
Bethany - human fighter
Aremus - half-elf paladin
Ordrar - dwarf eldritch knight

Ordrar broods out of the company and out of the ligh. His loss is too fresh for him to enjoy or carry meaningless conversations.

He instead installs himself near the stern and looks at the slowly passing shores. He doesn't pay any attention to the security lady, but he also doesn't make it any easier for her, staying out of the group.

Aremus: You would have been given 30 gold for information gathering.

Tranio: You make quick friends with a very drunk man who has a pet octopus on his shoulder and a jewel bedazzled rapier. He, repeatedly, introduces himself as Lord Drylund, the former Waterbaron of Yartar. Drylund will tell anyone who will listen how terrible the current Waterbaron, Ruthiol, is and that she no doubt spread lies to cost him the election. You quickly gather that he runs the casino on the ship, since the gawdy decorations match his clothes, and that the tough looking woman answers to him.

Dren & Ordrar: Lord Drylund makes every dwarf joke known to man and mocks their fear of water.

Gambling: Let me know if any of you would like to partake in any wagers.

Tranio spends the evening with Lord Drylund, making sure that he introduces the man before he needs to do so himself. Tranio is not a gambler himself, but he will happily have his evening paid for in exchange for flattery and the company.

He starts with the octopus, and gets its name.
He then observes, always drinking less than his host. If Drylund runs the casino, then he might not be as gregarious as he appears. Nevertheless, his company should give Tranio insight into any opportunities or issues aboard ship, and, after all, the man has a pet octopus. This is going to be an enjoyable evening.

Ordrar ignores the jibes, he is of Deep Lake clan and powerful swimmer.

But the loss of the Nightstone, his decades there and people he watched grow up or in some cases grow old is still raw. At third such joke he turns on the owner jabbing thick finger into mans chest.
"I am Ordrar of Deep Lake clan. I was swimming in waters much more dangerous than some surface benign river before you were born, yokel. I come from Nightstone and I'm in no mood to be entertained. And stories about being lost baron and now running a gambling house. Does anyone believe the story? Or you just try it to impress young girls?! Now unless you have sudden need to swimm with your octopussy, LEAVE. ME. BE!"

OOC: Sorry, no diplomacy in this one :)

Dren actually laughs at the dwarven jokes. Not that they were funny. Some of them were downright racist. But being a monk, he hadn’t heard a lot of them before.

“Aye, we are like tha’!” he had to admit.

He isn’t quite sure why Ordrar is so upset. “Easy, lad!” he told the man. “‘e ain’t the cause o’ yer problems, an’ ‘e’s daein’ us a roight favor in givin’ us a ride upstream.” He turned back to Drylund. “Thing aboot elections is there’s always another,” he said. “Ye c’n always be Waterbaron again.”

"Aye, he's not. But he's also not taking a hint. I didn't have time to process the events at Nightstone, nor being nearly eaten by ogres and than comes this human with his problems. Like we should care. And being obnoxious. Yes, the dwarves don't like water or flying. I'm an exception in part, I actually like water. But I'm in no mood to be joked with or at!"

He waves his hand "Bah!" as he turns away and returns back to ships railing.

OOC: the move of the hand is downward, I don't know if there is better expression than wave for the motion. In my language there is a difference in prefix of the word mahnuti = wave; odmahnuti = wave off or wave back
