I have not been able to decode the email address as well.
getlink56+enw is the exact text for the email. The domain is
gmail.com
Why is there the "+enw" and is it necessary.
Gmail allows any email address to receive emails with "+text" appended after the username. This is great for setting up rules and outing spam sources. As far as gmail is concerned
getlink56+enw is the exact same address as
getlink56+bigharryballs.
If you don't include the
+enw, the canned response won't trigger. I didn't want the automated reply to go to every spam bot that finds this address. Without the
+enw tag, the email still delivers but you won't get your link. Further, I set up inbox rules to label emails that included the
+enw tag so I could easily find the emails that needed to be added to distro list.
Moving Forward
What I didn't anticipate is google limiting BCC recipients to 25 per message and 500/day.
That wasn't a problem initially but now the list is up to 363 users and I do the distro emails myself. As the list gets bigger, I will eventually abandon the task. Don't worry though. I'll continue to update the canned response to include the most up to date links and I'm sure Forge's minions will continue to provide notifications when a new version is available. The canned response is set up to only fire off if the sender hasn't received it in the last 4 days so checking everyday for updates isn't going to accomplish anything. Just watch this forum for updates and then send your emails when needed.
What is a canned response?
Canned Response is gmail's version of an out of office response.
Any other questions?
Ask away. I might log in again sometime in the next month and answer them. Maybe.
Edit: Distro Problem solved? We shall see... The limit of 500 emails sent per rolling 24 hours still means eventually this will be a multi-day effort.
