Princes of the Apocalypse or Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil?

Thinking about playing through one of these. Which one would you recommend and why. Conversion is not an issue, but I want to play the best Elemental Evil/Tharizdun adventure out there.

Also, should I seek to include Against the Cult of Chaos and/or The Elder Elemental Eye from the D&D 4e encounters series?

(many years ago we played the original ToEE, but only made it to the first lvl).

Thanks.

I have heard many good things about Return, as well as Princes. I don't know anything about the 4E adventures though.

My only suggestion with Princes is to change the 3 level elemental temples to be separate temples. Otherwise, lower level character are likely to stumble into more dangerous areas because it makes logical sense.

Played return to in the 3e era. Enjoyed it, but it did drag a bit. I think for it, like the original, the players need to take some initiative to get through it, you don't want to use the whole thing. Return to did include Homlet, the Moathouse, Nulb and characters from the original adventure...Princes is (nominally) set in FR, and does not have as many nods to the original.

I sort of merged the two.

I placed the elemental temples into the volcano which made it interesting for the players to play the different temples off each other.
Unfortunately people moved away and the campaign fell apart before they got into the center.

Cna't speak to RttToEE but PotA can be a bit repetitive. The Red Larch opening adventure is great, though. I've used it as a starting adventure twice now. I've also used bits and pieces of the rest of the adventure to great effect.

What about The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun?
