Level 6 maximum DND variant? Or was I dreaming?

Hi all,

A while ago I read a post and I thought (I could easily be mistaken) that the poster mentioned a variant of DND where level capped at 6th or something, and afterwards you got more feats or features for certain amounts of XP.

Does anyone know what I might be talking about? I have searched for hours for it online but not come up with anything. I am starting to think I dreamt it! Ha!

It is called E6. As far as I know it is a 3.5 ed. variant.

Yeah, it was for 3e because things quickly get out of control for spellcasters after 6.

I suppose in 5e it would be 10th level but it's not really the same as it isn't the same game.

You could certainly run E6 in 5e with PCs getting stat boosts or feats after 6th, say every 10,000 or 20,000 XP, but it seems a lot less necessary in 5e.

as others have mentioned it was called E6, though for 5e I would stop at lvl 10, not 6. There was also a thread on here were someone did an E10 version of 5e, but also revised the classes so that they got all of their class features in those 10 levels. So you got the entire goodies of the class (well expect spell castes I guess) but didn't have as much increasing math (no additional ASI or prof. bonus).

Sorry, I 'm really bad with the enworld search function or I would try to look it up for you.

Yes, there were various versions for 3E. I remember suggesting that 8th or even 10th level would be a better breakpoint so as to allow more multi-classing. Prestige classes became feat / ability chains. I remember that a lot of people had a lot of fun with it.

Having run a 5E game from level 3 to level 18, I can say that while the game does have a few higher level issues, it's nowhere near the issues of 3E or AD&D. If you wanted to run something like E6, you're probably better off stoping at tier 3 (level 11), since it's just after this point that things get wonky. Since most campaigns end at around this point it seems fairly unecessary, but viable if you want to continue without any issues at all.

Thanks all for the info. I'll check it out. I was reminded of it when I came across a simple RPG called Swords & Six-Siders. Pretty basic stuff.
