D&D (2024) PHB 2024 - General Impressions and Random Things I Noticed

5e initiative is already boring by being static round after round so I'm not sure this makes it worse, but hoping Project Sigil has automatic initiative you can roll every round.
Project Sigil isn't about automation, the DM determines initiative and can call for rolls.
Additionally, even if they were focused on automation, re-rolling Initiative every round could make spells and effects last longer or shorter than they should.

4. The "Skills with Different Abilities" sidebar explicitly permits the DM to let players make an Intimidation check using their STR score.
This was in the 2014 PHB as well (page 175).

5. The opening chapters are filled with play examples from Curse of Strahd. I like that.
I will be very surprised if some kind of update/sequel to Curse of Strahd for 5e Revised isn't in the works.

9. Dark Sun is mentioned a few times, and is in fact the only setting mentioned in the PHB that hasn't been published for 5e yet.
Continue to be very surprised by this, since just last year they didn't think it was doable. Guessing they must be reconsidering. (Hopefully they make something veteran Dark Sun fans enjoy - reactions to Athasspace "Doomspace" suggest that wouldn't cut it.)

Nah, Curse of Strahd is still on the market, it's evergreen.

Kyle Brinks said it would be difficult, but...that's not necessarily the end of the story. It would be difficult to do well, doesn't mean it is impossible or that the designers don't want to try. Justice Ramin Armin said he wanted to give it a shot, as I recall.

Dang I was hoping it would automat some of the process. I like rolling intitive each round as it adds uncertainty to combat. No more "the cleric goes before Bob's character makes his second death save so I will just ignore him". But calling for a roll each round slows combat even more.

I mean, you can roll a die, no problem. Bit the whole point of Sigil is that it doesn't automate stuff like a video game, it's a digital minis and terrain playground. No tech barriers to house rules.

Ive said it before and I will say it again. At some point a revised and expanded version just makes financial sense. They've went back to the Ravenloft well so many times and we all keep buying it one more isn't going to hurt.
They already did, you can buy it in a coffin shaped game box.

Why would they spend money on redesigning it further when they can just keep selling it...? A large point of the 2024 rules change is to keep older material up for sale.
