D&D General Greyhawk setting material

I'd suggest the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer for this, really. It give details on more of the GH gods without all the game mechanics in D&DG.

But the Living Greyhawk book is out of sync with Ghosts of Saltmarsh (easy enough to fix, though).

Everything after the 1983 boxed set is superfluous at best, DIAF at worst.

I hear good things about Carl Sargent's stuff? I am nostalgic for the 3E Greyhawk of my youth, too...

Honestly, I have the box set and not the Folio, but it may be worth getting the Folio for a hard copy ...?

This is true, however the gods section is pretty much usable as-is (except Mayaheine wouldn't exist in a pre-From the Ashes timeline). The other sections can serve as inspiration to be stolen from or be completely ignored. And there IS a lot of bad artwork. Oh, never mind.

One source that I haven seen mentioned is Anna Meyer's GH maps. Not necessary if you have the map from the original boxed set, but highly recommended.

Yeah, I was always confused about the Living Greyhawk book: here was the official default setting, with little production value in softcover....but here is an alternative I beautiful color hardcover called the Forgotten Realms.

I'll second the 1E Boxed Set. There's also a single book, often referred to as the Greyhawk Folio that was a precursor. I would avoid the later setting material, because the timeline GoS is set in appears to be the original 1E one. They Greyhawk Wars at the start of 2E led to the Scarlet Brotherhood moving from the shadows and having a direct impact (they directly control the Sea Princes, for example), which takes away their impact in Saltmarsh.

It's hard to keep up with TSR metaplot for any setting. And a lot of metaplot often ruined the setting as well with massive changes usually by Uber NPCs.

I’m a big fan of the original Greyhawk Folio. It’s pretty barebones, but is elegant in its simplicity. And as I always say, the Darlene Greyhawk map is absolutely iconic.
