WotC WotC will do what you say for 5 years. What are your instructions?

I think they do a better job than I would.

But personally I would like to see a loose series of adventures released (like in 1e) and a tactical options rulebook which really pushes the 5e framework as far as it can go with regards to further options for martial characters and monsters in particular.

Your first point and your already wrong. Wizards have said time and again gamers can use their old products in concert with their new ones. Driving away fans could not be further from the truth. In fact more fans than ever are playing 5e. And hopefully other RPGs.

It is good to share opinions. Making stuff up just because you want to live in a fantasy is really stupid.

Wow, okay. Nice way to have a civilized talk there.
WotC lied. Shocking, I know. Conversion from 2e to 3e was huge ass-pain, 3.5e to 4e doable but uncomfortable. 4e to 5e is easy breezy, but a day late and a dollar short.
Yes, more fans that ever are playing 5e because 5e actually works, its a better game than the versions before it, and RPGs are back in-fashion.
But there was a huge loss when 3e came out that has only just started to ease back into the game because 5e has a reputation of being the closest yet to "real" D&D as they know it.

And if you don't like my answers, maybe you shouldn't have asked.

Quoting profanity? Don’t do it.

Wait, maybe I'm confused. He/she asked what you hated that they were currently doing, and you brought up the edition changes from 2e to 3e and 3e to 4e not being backwards compatible. Something from 19 and 11 years ago respectively. As a current issue?

Again, good that you shared opinions. But making naughty word up is not doing you any favors. And do you know what a rhetorical question is?

Please tell us how Wizards lied? Please tell us how that is making their products obsolete? Your not just using mechanics. Your still using the lore. In fact Wizards have been saying to continue using their lore. In fact one of the reasons why they have not released a ton of setting material is because they have said that the public can keep using their past lore. That is really a frigging funny way of making their products obsolete.
A change in mechanics is a natural progression in an edition change. If you do not like the change in edition play the edition your happy with. No one is demanding you to stop how you play.

And which is it? Are they driving fans away from rpgs or are rpgs back in fashion?

Yes. When the damage is still affecting today's market, it is still a current issue.
We were asked for opinions, I offered. They wanted explanations, I gave them.
Heaven forbid somebody sees opinion that is not all flag-waving pro-WotC.
Fine, fine, I'll just shut the fudge up about it.

No profanity, please.

5 years of me being in charge huh?
Am I in charge of WoTC? Or WotC making D&D? And can I be ousted....

1st things 1st, I'm going to give myself a healthy raise & a nice exist package. :)

Some things that I'll do after that for the rest of you:

1) Collect & republish all the monsters whose stats have only appeared in the modules as a MM2 volume. Flesh it out as needed for a healthy page count.
Revisit this about 2-3 years later for MM3.

2) Hey, you know that other great game we publish? MTG? Guess what? It's getting a dedicated pure D&D block! It's going to be fully legal in all the formats.
I toy with the idea of making it Eternal {note: I do not know if this is already a MTG term. If it is then I'll find a new name} - meaning that while the set itself might go out of print, the cards will remain in all the formats (past/present/& whatever we cook up in the future) forever.

3) We have an extensive back catalog of RPGs & board games. Guess what? Other than stuff for the current edition of D&D, all MTG cards, & any stuff we don't have the rights to any longer (Ex; The Marvel superhero game I'd assume), it's all going up as cheap PDFs with Print on demand options.
You want your favorite issue of Dragon Magazine? Here you go. You want the third supplement for Gamma World 3rd ed? How about the complete 4e collection? Every D&D Companion set module? How about those great (or not so great) Avalon Hill board games? (for games that had unique plastic components 3d files will be included) You want it? Here it is.
Of course we reserve the rights to reprint any of this stuff, but in the meantime if we can make another $ off of it....

4) D&D turns 50! in 2024.
You're getting 6e & a year long celebration! Al kinds of great stuff. But don't panic. 6E will be backwards compatible with 5e. But it'll be cleaned up, improved upon, & will generally encourage, not force, you to upgrade.
This might be when you see the D&D MTG set I mentioned. Though I've been wanting & waiting for that to happen for so many years I might get it out before then....

5) Speaking of Magic.... Can you believe it turns 30 in 2023? I've got something in mind for them as well.

What damage is still affecting today's market?

And stop with the hyperbolic victimhood, it's not helping the conversation.

If you see profanity, please don’t quote it. More work for your mods, it is.
