Pathfinder 1E Wizkids should take the Pathfinder 1.0 ruleset and publish their own RPG.

Greetings True Believers!!

Seeing a company like Wizkids put out great product after great product, I think they would be an excellent candidate to take over the Pathfinder 1.0 ruleset (and maybe tweak it a little to make it their own) and create their own RPG.

They have a HUGE stable of artists who could contribute to the project and a ton of talent on staff to create an original RPG setting.

I personally would love to see something like this happen!

What would such a thing feature that a thousand existing PF1 books doesn’t? I can’t think of what the selling point would be for such a thing. Nobody wants to buy all their PF1 books again.
That was originally the thought about 3.5, right? "We're just keeping the rules in print so you can use your existing 3.5 books" soon became "update everything to Pathfinder."
I think some people would prefer to buy a Pathfinder 1.5 (or D&D 3.85e) than to go to PF2 or D&D5, even if it meant buying a bunch of new books that are mostly compatible while providing an incremental update to Pathfinder 1e.
Ancedotally, and in my local area, the Pathfinder fans I know would rather buy this than switch to PF2.

The Pathfinder fans in your local area would rather rebuy a WizKids reboot of PF1 than play PF2?

It’s not a binary choice between those options. Did you also ask all the Pathfinder fans in your local area whether they would like to just play PF1? Or are they set on buying a WizKids reboot of all their books?

They prefer to play PF1, and they would continue to purchase supplements and adventures compatible with that line. They have trashed the idea of PF2 after playing the playtest. It's more about the investment in time to learn the system and gain system mastery than buying new books. PF requires immense system mastery - and many of these players have played only 3.x and PF, so they are unwilling to look at other systems and devote the time to learn a new system.

Out of curiosity what is the size of your local area? And how did they all find out about this WizKids idea so quickly? I mean, Maul only posted it 56 minutes ago!

Theoretically, and not the WizKids idea specifically. They would prefer to continue to play and support PF1. This has been their reaction since the announcement of PF2's release and especially since their experiences with the playtest.
I have spoken to only the thirty or so gamers I personally know, so it may not be a scientific sample size of the entire PF fan base. That's why I didn't use words like "all Pathfinder players" in my thoughts.

Doesn't WizKids have a pre-existing business relationship with both WotC and Paizo? I'm sure they'd love to anger both their partners by producing a new version of a 20 year old system with a gazillion books and shrinking player base - never mind that they don't publish RPGs. Also, there's already 3PP companies that have announced they're continuing PF1e support (their name escapes me though - Purple Porphyria maybe, IDK).
