D&D General Greyhawk setting material

I find this line of logic utterly dissonant. Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms have more in common with each other than any other setting in D&D. Greyhawk was the default setting of D&D in 3rd edition for Pelor's sake; it doesn't get any more generic than that!

Mate that's my point. You want to take perhaps the two most similar settings in D&D... and make them even more similar.

Maybe... maybe... it's better to keep what's different intact?

Ravnica doesn't address all the races in the PHB. But it's still a good book, and a successful one in sales. So no, this isn't necessary.

Ravnica I still consider a unique exception; its attempting to mimic the world of Magic: The Gathering which has lacked many of those races (or they exist only on other planes far removed from Ravnica). Ravnica also lacks a large variety of monsters from the Monster Manual. That's because Ravnica is using D&D to emulate a setting that wasn't designed for D&D in the first place.

Greyhawk was. It is a D&D setting. It was literally born FOR D&D. It can accommodate most of the things in the PHB or MM FAR better than a setting emulating MtG can.

Your going to have to do FAR more than remove two races. That's like saying two 2019 Toyota Corollas are completely different types of cars because one has different hubcaps.

I'm guessing none of them want to run a dragonborn....

No in this game it was fine and I included the Kobold Press Dragonkin options. They didn't pick one but I was hoping someone would chose an anthromorphic race, Dragonkin, Nurian Dwarf or Minotaur but ended up with aasimar, half elf and some humans.

I mix my games up and it varies what's available. I gave the players a choice of Greyhawk, FR or Midgard and they chose Midgard. I then gave them a choice of Egypt, Viking or kinda normal and they chose Egypt.

Ok, I'm going to reiterate this quote chain to show how it makes no sense.

1. Someone says Greyhawk is a generic fantasy setting, so it should have all the PHB races.

2. I say if you make Greyhawk have the same slate of fantasy races as FR, you're making it more generic.

3. You say Greyhawk and FR are so similar that it makes Greyhawk generic, so it must have the PHB races.

4. I say that's why it could be better for Greyhawk to have different race selection, so it's less generic.

5. You just reiterate 3 with a metaphor.

Like, what do you want? FR with a different name? Because I want a different setting, one that feels different. Seeing the same races running around makes me feel like I should just play FR with a different tone.
