D&D 5E Do you want new settings, character-types, and monsters?

Pretty much all the good D&D ideas (and plenty of bad ones) have already been done. But some, like Metamorphosis Alpha, haven't been seen for 40 years.

Apparently, TSR didn't retain rights to it, so WotC hasn't been the one to publish it.

Metamorphosis Alpha was essentially the same game as Gamma World, just set inside a malfunctioning colony ship (per Brian Aldiss's 1958 science-fiction classic, Starship). Gamma World has been through by my count (which pointedly ignores the S&SS d20 modern version and does count Omega World from Dungeon Magazine) seven editions, including FASERIP and Alternity versions.

Metamorphosis Alpha under more or less that name, was re-done in '94 using the Amazing Engine system. And again in 2002 and 2006. The original has also been errata'd and reprinted.

I want old settings released for 5e. Specifically Dark Sun.

More character options would be nice.

I don’t need new monsters though. I have a collection of homebrew monsters that work better than the official ones released by WOTC.

I would like a Dark Sun sourcebook, DS adventure, DS miniatures and DS maps.

No to all three, and you can add in 'new spells', 'new feats', 'new PC races', and 'new archtypes'.

That would be one exception, IMO. Especially the maps, because IMO the old Dark Sun maps were awful.

I just wish that map tiles were published for APs as a luxury product! Oh, and Schley should be restored as main cartographer. Unlike many others, I actually like Logos's style quite a lot, but, for the sake of VTT players, schley should be restored. However, Logos's maps should still be used in some capacity.

I was referring to the region maps. That was what stopped me from ever using Dark Sun. Give me a good overall map (such as Midgard's or Faerun) and I'll make the rest fit.

Oh yes, I know what you were referring to, and I too would like those. I was merely stating a desire of mine.

I was talking to a player about this tonight. If WotC sold printed color maps of their official campaigns I would buy those in a heartbeat.

As would I. As someone who games IRL, I would love official tiles for an AP. I tend to run homebrew campaigns, but the availability of AP tiles would make me more likely to run a WotC campaign, due to the sheer awesomeness of having good, setting-specific map tiles.

Seems like a niche they could fill, not sure why it never caught on. 4e spent years putting out those little square map tiles, but I would have preferred big paper maps myself of specific adventures. Even if you weren't running said adventure you could retool any map to your own purpose.
