At this point we have a few options.

1. Wait until we get a couple more players, then select the setting.

2. Wait a week or so until after New Year holiday, then select the setting.

3. Select the Greek setting. Start roughing out the setting/game outline. Start character generation. This may mean a solo campaign, at least initially.

I'm keen to start now. What's your preference?

I'd like to try for a few more players. Just because it's easier to write off with a group. But I know this is late, so if you want to start, that's cool, too LOL I pretty much checked out all Christmas week.

My preference would be a couple more players as well.

That said, given the level of interest so far, it might be a fairly long wait.

I think that we should start working on character and setting ideas. Activity tends to generate attention. Maybe the process with generate some interest.

So here are some questions to start. These will give me something to start working off. So anything, even just words, phrases or pictures, will be helpful.
  1. What sort of charcter are you thinking of playing?
  2. What makes them different?
  3. What are they afraid of?
  4. What do they dream of?
  5. What would their travelling companions look like?

1. Nothing for certain yet. I tend toward certain types, but I can play anything. I like fast talking face characters that can charm the panties off the pope. I like support characters, making other people better. I tend toward religious characters like paladins and clerics. And I tend to like gishes (magic to enhance fighting, rather than straight up dropping a fireball, so like paladins and eldritch knights, or arcane archers). Obviously there's no magic in the game (had to go back and skim over the rules again! LOL), so those kinds are out. So maybe the fast talker or some priest/priestess kind of character?
2-4: Character is still nebulous, so I'm not sure on these yet.
5. Maybe people that round the character out, cover for weaknesses.

Ironsworn does not do big budget FX magic, but there is magic. All the Ritual assets are a type of magic.

Most of the characters are martial types in one form or another. The selection of assets significantly shapes the character, and the range allows for spectrum of characters from very focused to more all-round. Shi (above) is something of the latter. Essentially a swordsman, but the Hound Companion and Keen Path assets both give him a bonus to investigation. Having some social/interaction skill helps in solo play.

I would suggest poking around the asset list and seeing what grabs your attention.

2-4: Character is still nebulous, so I'm not sure on these yet.

Once we get to a character concept, we can come back to these.

Hi,

I have recently found Ironsworn and would like to throw my hat in here (also getting back into PbP after a long work induced hiatus).

1. Kore: Kingdom of Harmony (feudal Japan analogue)
2. Ironsworn default setting (viking analogue)
3. To Slay a Dragon (standard fantasy)
4. The New Argonauts (mythic greek analogue)

I would prefer Ironsworn default setting or the Greek analogue. I'm not sure I would be interested in the japan version - my interest in feudal japan went as far as NINJASARECOOL when I was 12.

Character wise I would lean towards a brash, arrogant fighter type or a mystical support type character. The specifics in you list I would cover when I get the character up properly.

Heh. If you want to do the brash, arrogant fighter, I can do the suave, quick-talker. Maybe we can slip some magic into the assets or something. I'm going to pull out the book now and work up a character.
