D&D General New D&D Boardgame Coming

Spotted at London's Toy Fair by Dicebreaker.com was a new D&D boardgame. The box says “your quick start, quick play entry into the world of D&D”.

When leveling up? I loved Hero-Quest board game where I could earn coins to buy item. I bought the D&D board game in the 3.5 but it wasn't true leveling up, but automatic "milestones", and a limit for item I could keep.

I suggest WotC to publish a PDF in internet to be downloaded for players who would rather to play an "advenced version".

And allowing an open licence for fans and 3PPs creating their own expansions, for example little centauresses as PCs.

I loved Hero-Quest board game where I could earn coins to buy item.

I used Hero Quest as a "gateway drug" to expose my sons (8 and 10 at the time) to the basic tents of D&D. Then, after we had mastered that, I promoted them to AD&D 2nd Edition, which was the current edition at the time. They're both still gamers to this day.

Did you know there a crowdfounding for a Hero Quest 25 Annyversary Edition by a Spanish miniature company? Gamezone, but they failed the management and now.. they can't end the project, no money. Maybe Hasbro should the company. What a shame! You can suposse the backers are angry.

You know if you really want to play Hero Quest now, I've heard that Silver Tower is a sort of homage to it. I don't know if the rules are actually that similar however.

The rules are different, a dungeon crawling but without collecting item nor leveling up, always the same "story". I'm afair it is not my cup of tea.

I started playing HeroQuest with my kid when the kid was 4. At 5 we started Basic Fantasy RPG and we just changed over to RC D&D.

The kid is 6 now and every Sunday we play a game I run, a game the 6yo runs, and a 3rd game of either HeroQuest, Fireball Island, or Pokemon.

In addition, they've been invited to join a 5e game at school, which is normally reserved for kids in 3rd grade and up (my kid is a currently a kindergartener).

It's a course plot that works very well.

My 8-year-old's (he's now 34, by the way) first question, upon seeing the Hero Quest box cover artwork and having the different characters explained to him, was "Why is the Barbarian wearing furry underpants?"
