WOIN Fantasy Grounds: O.L.D.?

Any chance that we will see an O.L.D. package for Fantasy Grounds? I'm pretty sure that the N.E.W. implementation was planned with further support for O.L.D. and N.O.W. but it's been a bit since N.E.W. was released, and no further info.

Well, that was fun

It’s not something I’m involved with - you’d have to ask the folks at FG. All I did was give them permission to use the system. :)

The current WOIN stuff on FG is developed by a regular Joe. He still hasn't finished working on NEW to be honest. I refunded it last year because my players couldn't use it at all. He seems to be out of hospital and back to working on it actively again. I may pick it up once more (at a steep $20USD) and see if it meets expectations.

As for OLD, the guy who made the NEW ruleset has suspended work on OLD until 1.2 drops. At least that was what he had said in the past. I think time is a constraint as he is one guy working on the system, unlike DND stuff which has teams of coders working on to produce.

Im hooked on WOIN. Its everything I love about savage worlds PLUS more depth in character building and then some. I love the Sci-Fi setting stuff mostly. In our new COVID-based gaming culture I've been doing a lot of Fantasy Grounds - but sadly WOIN was not well reputed on FG when this all went down a few months ago. I've been playing the hell out of Savage Worlds.

We're ready to do something new - and i want to run my WOIN sci-fi game I started as table top last year but have been unable to do since February. SO - i'm trying to find some good threads on FG forums about WOIN and there's not much.
I'm wondering if there's any info from users here that have any updates, reports or reviews if there's any/much support for WOIN on FG yet?

Colin has done a great job at what has been converted to FG thus far. It is true that many of the rulesets are created by community developers and only the core systems are created inhouse, which many of these other rulesets are layered on top of, but that is because we are a small team and our resources do get spread quite thin. Being the full-time artist for SmiteWorks (the company that creates Fantasy Grounds) I am one of those thinly stretch people :)

I can appreciate all of the work that has gone into the ruleset on Fantasy Grounds. However I am disappointed from the lack of support the ruleset receives. It is fully licensed and there is a $20 charge for it, but it seems to be treated like a community created ruleset. I can have way more patience for something that is fan created versus something that is sold and should be assumed to be completely functional, but it is not.
I purchased it because I really want to love the WOIN system and use it for all of our groups games, but it is very difficult when it is 90% there but that 10% that doesn't work makes it hard for us to use over the more fully functional rulesets like Savage Worlds (which by the way costs half the price of the WOIN ruleset and is very active with updates).
I know this is kind of venting because the complaints are not with EN World or WOIN, but I would love to see WOIN get the popularity it deserves. Without a great way to play it online, during these COVID times especially, I fear that support for WOIN will end up just like the support for the ruleset on Fantasy Grounds.

I am unaware of anything in the ruleset that does not work, but there is a thread here that is for the discussion of the ruleset which is still very much active. If you have any requests for functionality, have suggestions for improvement, or to get updates on when O.L.D. or N.O.W. might be released then that is where to find it/post it. I would put it to you that the system is in constant updates ( I think he has done 9 major updates to the system since its release with the 10th happening in the next week or so) and is thus certainly in full support. It should also be noted that your feedback is very important to us and we are heavily involved with our community so you will see more often than not questions on our discord, forums, or anywhere answered by our dev team directly (much like here which I must take a moment to thank Morrus for not only making a great system but always being present to answer questions and generally being involved, thank you, Sir). MadBeardMan (Colin who ported the system to FG) does manage also the Traveller 1 and 2 rulesets from Mongoose as well as a slew of other things ( I think he does a lot of Call of Cthulhu stuff) and the people that are invested in those rulesets are also important and therefore we must always do a balancing act as to what is currently the most needed focus of our energy.

That said, the WOIN system is flexible with tons of customizations and a lot of on the fly changes with dice pool manipulations and so on which is a great aspect of the game yet one that does not allow for a lot of preset automation within the FG ruleset. MadBeardMan has however done an amazing job bringing as much automation of WOIN core gameplay mechanics that is currently in the system and allowing other areas to be manually manipulated for better customization of bespoke elements.

I personally have just become invested in WOIN and like you all am very excited about the system in general and am starting a campaign in the weeks to come. I too want this system to find the popularity it deserves, I have no idea how popular it is but it should be even MORE popular :), and feel the best way to propagate that is to get involved and help those that push for the expansion of a great product.

I just started with the basics of making a character. I added the species which worked fine, then the origin career which worked fine. Then I started adding the other careers and it stopped updating the attributes when I added further careers. I also had an issue when adding a weapon to my character. I posted on the forum you linked back in May but never received a response. I also noticed back in May there was supposed to be a fix for a cosmetic issue of the "Careers" title not showing up. This is still an issue with the game, so I am assuming that update was never done.

I don't know what version was current when I first tried the ruleset back in May since the last update on the first post was for version 1.6 back in 2018. I tried searching the City Hall release updated threads in the FG forums, but the only hits that come up for "WOIN" or "W.O.I.N. " are a few updates back in 2017 when the ruleset released, and one for May 2020 regarding the Xenomorphs book. Then I jump into a Savage Worlds, D&D, or Starfinder game and those rulesets have all kinds of automation and quality of life options. My only problem is I don't like those game systems and really like the WOIN system. So I guess the inability to even know how frequently the ruleset is updated doesn't help my view that it seems closer to a community ruleset than a licensed ruleset. I guess my expectations may have been set too high with the other rulesets I have experienced.

I am looking forward to the upcoming update though. Thank you for that information. I did not know an update was coming in the next week.

Sorry for my delayed response, have been exceptionally busy getting prepared for GenCon. I have double-checked and you are correct that careers are currently not updating attributes and there seem to be a some minor cosmetic issues. I will put in a word to Colin about it. I understand your viewpoint and you have some very valid feelings.

Careers now update properly but only ones loaded from official modules, not custom content currently (homebrew creations). All equipment seems to function properly, make sure you drag it into the proper location on your character sheet. This area is activated by clicking on the equipment tab and any item dragged there will auto-update other areas such as in the actions tab for weapons.
