Add that to the image WotC put out with the upcoming announcement.

I don't remember. Did they reveal it at the event, or hint to it?

They gave no details, but they unveiled an Eberron picture in a context that made it clear the fourth book would be Eberron. Details came latter.

Do recall that Wildemount is not an in-house project, so three in-house products this year even with the logistical difficulties is not improbable.

Whatever they did last year, I think the degree of uncertainty this year means hinting at something that might get delayed due to external factors is unlikely.

True, things are up in the air. But I expect they are working to get a late Fall book complete, at any rate, beyond the storyline.
Sure, I'm reasonably confident the plan is to get the book with subclasses, alternative class features etc out before Christmas, but they are likely to be more cagey about it this year, because no one likes to have to say a product is delayed.

I'm sure that is what they were planning. With the pandemic, that could be delayed, or only released digitally until this Covid-19 business goes away.

  • Two upcoming storylines are codenamed “Cloak” and “Dagger”
  • Codenames are unfortunately necessary, mainly because all titles need to go through trademark search. It’s a lot harder to find non-trademarked names these days, so until Wizards won’t use a name that they know will be on the final product. It helps them not become attached to a name they can’t use.
  • A recent playtest for “Cloak” featured the PCs going up into the icy mountains to find a temple under a mountain that is now the repository of evil. A sect of good-aligned wizards and temples were keeping the evil trapped, but that was 400-500 years ago. What now? It’s a fragment of a story that will come in the future.
  • In “Dagger” you are going around plundering the ancestral tombs of barbarians – but that doesn’t tell you much about what the overall story is like.

Would that third one make sense?
