D&D 5E Synergy of a INT-based warlock

Personally, I'd like to see Warlock not have any stat dependency. I mean, if there's any class that should appeal to a character that isn't particularly talented but will do anything to become powerful, it's Warlock.
That would be interesting. DC 14+1/3rd Your Warlock Level.

Just for the sake of the experiment, imagine that Warlock was using Intelligence as their casting stat. What could it imply?

Loses SAD with Paladins, Sorcerers, and Bard (and the few martial classes gaining from high CHA like swashbuckler).
Gains SAD with Wizards and Artificers.

  • Potentially create super fighter-mage with 1-level dip in hexblade (that 1-level dip is somewhat problematic in any situation mind you)

How would making Warlocks Int based allow for the creation of super fighter-mages? Most players who aren't playing Wizards tank their Int score. Especially those playing fighters.

The sorcerer feels like a class that could thematically get away with different subclasses using different spellcasting attributes. Maybe even give the choice of using charisma or attribute X. It's weird but I don't see it as any different than a fighter picking between strength and dexterity for attacks.
I've considered this as well. Divine Soul could use WIS, Shadow might use CHA, Dragon Bloodline might use CON, Wild Magic might change every long rest! :D

That's an intriguing point. What would that look like?

Mainly thru hexblade warlock /blade signer wizard where Int would be used for attack, damage, and AC, permanent mage armor, potential eldritch smite, etc. That’s the worst “abuse” that I can come up with, but I don’t think it would be that broken.

I’m sure there are other synergetic tricks to pull with Int warlock; I’m looking for more.

[edit] indeed there is no fighter class in this definition of “fighter-mage”. Gish would have been more appropriate maybe...

Without tearing down the entire Warlock structure, one could use proficiency bonus in place of Charisma mod, or maybe a specific progression tied to Warlock level.
